it's stuff like wot mthrnite is going on about that brings out the worst/best in my moderating
a few wks ago some of you may of seen me really let fly on the forum,deleting crap topics,banning lamers and generally trying to clean the place up cus i was the only mod around and things were really bad that nite
i was also told by a few people that i was making the situation worse which i think is a load of crap
i even spoke to shaunj later that evening because i thought i may of gone too far lol but he told me that he knows my way of moderating is not to everyone's liking but i will get the job done

it really annoys/upsets me when i look at parts of the forum we have built up and see it getting trashed by people who dont know or care about the roots this place came from
i will never change the way i moderate this place because i know that even though i can appear to outsiders to be a harsh,grumpy asshole that shouldnt be a mod the people that really know me know that i do it for the board because i really love this place and always have since the beginning

honestly people need to understand that the test area and irc (i think i have a permanet ban from the irc channels lol hey shadowxp remember prove it?) is for all that rick roll and bidoof crap seriously it's getting annyoing hopefully you'll find a way to do something about this in the future by the way when are you gonna tell us about the new feature?

i would like to make note to anyone who thinks about joining the irc chans just to spam and act like a fuckwit that it WILL not be tollerated and you will end up with a ban a LOT quicker than on here

The reason I'm not such an active member lately is also because some of these things.

It's over crowded with people who I'd rather not be around.

The reason I'm not an active member is that I feel I dont have anything worthy to contribute.
I'll always look at the topics I've subscribed too when I get an e-mail notification, but unless I have something usefull/insitefull/helpfull to say, I probably wont make a post.
It's people who reply with one work answers like 'Nice' on the R4Skin thread, or the muppets who go 'first' on new ROM release threads, that do my nut in.
They need to be told to clear off too

Nice thoughts, but no offense I doubt it will work. Not being pessimistic, but since its the masses that are doing this and not a handful of individuals, if people had more sense they wouldn't have let it breakout this far, but then again no one really told them to stop or enforce any sort of control except for today's "MOTD" that's the very reason why I don't post here unless I know some sensible people people will read this.

A karma system would be a pretty good addition to the forums, if moderated enough

Well put mthrnite.
I do really feel your pain and your frustration these days.
I get very much upset when a new Wii release comes along and usually 95% of the comments are about PAL compatibility or stupid things like first! or people bashing other people for asking about region compatibility, or the guys who desperately ask if a game has a firmware update.
That's really lame ! It used to be like this on the DS release forum a little while back when people started asking if a new rom was working on SC or M3, how to patch it and so on.....But still there was room to talk about the game itself.
Now it's really getting out of control, it's even pointless to check the tread anymore, I just look at the front page and I try to guess the rest.
Anyway, I still love GBAtemp and it would be nice to keep it clean.

Oh, and by the way... Our fifth birthday is coming up later this month, and we have a small surprise in store. I'd tell you more about it, but all this moderating is wearing my fingers out, so you'll just have to wait a bit. Suffice it to say, I like it, and I think you'll like it too. It's something many of us have been asking for, and soon the wait will be over.

Or ya know, you could just remind them that it's against board rules. I realize that a lot of people are going to sign up here and not read the rules. Maybe a quiz would help? That way at least they would know. Or we could stick the way we are and just moderate as it comes a long. Just a thought.

Good idea mthr, all this lameness on the forum gets really annoying sometimes. It's fun to be silly from time to time but, when it becomes systematic it gets boring and disgusting.

I remember that a lot of the report messages I got on this other forum I was in were like:
*Hey, this user is doing what I did, why doesn't he get moderated?? You guys suck.
*Hi! Can you check this post? I really need help ASAP!!1
