Hacking A New Switch Update May Be Coming Soon

I saw this post on reddit.

Just got an update for the Parent Control app and it mentions at the end "In order to use some of these features, you will need to update the Nintendo Switch system version to 5.0.0 or later." The last time the app update mentioned requiring a specific version of the software was the July 20th one which mentioned you need 3.0.0 to use the new features and 3.0.0 released a month before that on June 19th.

However, there have been Thursday/Friday updates. So we'll see.. May not be this week though.

I know it will add features. I just hope it doesn't patch nvhax or Deja vu. It would be awesome if 5.0.0 was another "safe" firmware for future homebrew and cfw. Though it's definitely something you don't update to unless you get the all clear from SciresM.

Watch it be exactly what the fake 5.0.0 update was. That would be hilarious, and also really good.

I don't believe that we'll ever get a proper internet browser for the Switch. And obviously themes are already a thing for the Switch, but hopefully they will one day open a theme store/allow us the ability to use a screenshot as a background (which I'm sure is what you meant), but I honestly don't think that we're likely to see more themes any time soon. It took like 3 or 4 years to allow us to get more themes for the 3DS, and while I don't expect it to be as long a wait for the Switch, I do think it speaks to how high of a priority such a feature is for Nintendo.

Problem is if you hack your switch and it warps you will have no warranty and even if you pay for Nintendo to fix it they will update it.

That was shown in the fake 5.0 video and tbh I can't imagine Nintendo would do that soon. Maybe some kind of wallpaper. Maybe folders. But not more. But we will see.

lol no, I'm pretty sure they roll this out only when you subscribed to their paid online service.

Definitely not. The browser was the reason the Wii U got homebrew and it's the reason we can do stuff on the Switch right now. By making a browser directly accessable from the home menu they would make things for hackers even easier and faster. Don't see that coming.

You're right about that stability thing though.

I generally don't care as long as Virtual Console comes and the playtime issue gets fixed.
(not so much for the first one though)
