I'm doin' a little research on cell phone plans, since I intend to get one for myself ASAP.

While poking around the AT&T site, I found this deal.
If I'm understanding correctly, I'd pay nothing for the phone. And then every month I'd pay about $80 for the unlimited messaging and 450 rollover minutes together.

Now I see some other phones have a 2-year service agreement price. Does this refurb bundle have an agreement, or what?

In short, I'm a cell phone plan/contract noob. If I'm willing to pay the $80 for the service I want from this phone, is it a good deal?
If not, what can you tell me to help in any way?

That sounds like a ripoff.

I use T-mobile and I get 1500 minutes a month for about $40. It was a promo plan that didn't last but I still have it. Every once in awhile they'll try to get me to do something else but it's not going to happen.

You should see if they still have that plan. 1500 minutes is way more than I will ever use per month so it's kind of nice to not have to worry about going over.

Dont forget about the (hidden) activation fee. those can be doohickeys.
It was listed in the Shopping Cart when I checked. $30.

Anyways, just reading PizzaPasta's post, it does seem a bit much.
I 'spose it'll help to explain what I'm looking for in a phone plan.

I require:
Unlimited messaging (text and IM)
Small amount of rollover minutes, since I won't be making long phone calls very often.
