If anyone remembers well, when the wii came out and they announced virtual console, it was a good way for people to buy classic games and play it on the system with smile purchase and download. There was lots of games to choose from a variety consoles. NES, SNES, and N64 being obvious but the other ones was more special.
  • Sega master system & Genesis
  • Neo Geo
  • Turbo Graphicx 16/CD
Even some direct ported arcade games as well. Then the wii u came out, with a much better system, people probably expected the return of many virtual console games, and probably many more that was missing on the wii. Sure it had more, like GBA and NDS, and some games from the already established consoles that was added like Donkey Kong 64. But then somethings went missing
  • No arcade games
  • No Sega games
  • No Neo Geo games either
Sure we got Turbo Graphix 16/CD (even if it's owned by konami by now) but it sure came in very late around the time the wii u was practically done for. My only question is what happened there? Yes It may been wrong to expect the same stuff and even more but still it didn't make sense to me. Even the 3DS has sega games like genesis and arcade games, and game gear. Sure game gear is mostly a portable system but so is GBA but and NDS and that's on wii u. (Just saying) There was some exclusives on that system. Anyway i think I made my point.

I'm just asking you if you have any good theories or ideas why this happened? Honestly I don't but I feel like someone must know. It's a oddball to just see this.

These platforms/games aren't owned by Nintendo and I assume the owners of the rights for these non-Nintendo IPs just didn't saw it worth there time to talk with Nintendo and work with them along to bring these things to the WiiU. The small install base of the console means a small amount of potential customers.
The 3DS on the other hand has a good install base, so why not take the small risk and invest in publishing these games on the 3DS, could work out very well for them.
Since the NX is surprising successful I assume we will see arcade, Sega and Neo Geo games on it once Virtual Console launches or a couple of month later. Don't worry about that (guess that's the reason for this thread ).

The Nintendo "SWITCH" already has Arcade games and Neo Geo games, hamster corp publishes a series called arcade archives on it as well as playstation 4. The point of this thread is to share a theory on why the wii had more range of VC console titles than the wii u, and to add to your small install base, that didn't stop Konami from allowing Turbo Graphix 16/CD games on wii u very late in the system life.

Licensing. None of those are Nintendo systems, meaning it's up to those companies to license or develop Virtual Console or equivalent - obviously it wasn't worth their time.

this... obviously they saw the first month of sales and tough well lets not gonna bother with this becuase its a flop and it was.

they werent gonna waste time and money developing their emulators and codding for wiiu with such small amount of users.

why switch doesnt have a VC is still beyond me, that is a mstery indeed, unless they are saving them all for the paid online program launch.

But it was worth it for konami since they have turbo graphix 16/CD games on eshop.
becuase they wanted too, i remenber sega clearly saying they didnt want to do e shop anymore or something similar.

same way some devs release some games on switch like ea releasing burnout paradise remastered on ps4,xb1 wich is a ps3/xbox360 remaster and not releasing on switch and remastering a ps3 game is not restrained by swithc so its just a matter of them wanting to try, so they probably saw he x amount of sales/work and tough well not worth the trouble for little return.
