Hello everyone,

I'm interested in getting a chip in my Xbox360 similar to the one I have in my Wii (Wiikey), so I can either run homebrew or backup games on it.
However I'm not sure which one is the most popular/works the best at the moment. I have been looking into getting Infectus along with firmware on it, but is it worth it?

I have a hitachi disc drive in my Xbox model btw.

Hope I can get some good recommendations from the nice people here.

Unless your drive is Hitachi 79, you don't need any extra chip for modding your 360.

Just flash your drive with iXtreme firmware.

The best way to get backups running on a 360 is no a modchip, it is flashing the dvd drive.

First you must find out what dvd drive you have.

hitachi_360_dvd_tray_500.jpg
benq_360_dvd_tray_500.jpg

Thats them all i think. There is also a Lite-on drive which is the same drive tray as the BenQ but the lite-on are not flashable. and if you have a Hitachi 79 you will need a chip like martin said so

Next up is to read the textbook .pdf which can be obtained here: http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=61.html
That will give you a fantastic guide on flashing your 360's dvd drive. Or if your not up to flashing it i know someone who does them cheap and i recommend him.

But Martin said I wouldn't need a chip in that case, but just to flash my drive? o_o

I have the middle one out of those pictures by the way.

martin means you only need a chip for the Hitachi 79.

Now you know your dvd drive is read the textbook

How do you guys burn your Xbox360 ISOs anyway?

Do you simply obtain your ISO file and burn it with IMGburn, such as with Wii games?

There should be a ".dvd" next to your ISO file , just burn the .dvd with IMGBurn. (the ".dvd" contains some important informations for burning DL-DVDs)

Do you next to purchase external hardware like the modchip or anything? Because if you don't ... I'll mod my XBOX 360.
You don't need a modchip.

All you need is a computer with a compatible SATA chipset.

Yes. I modded it about a year ago.

It's definitely worth it, I've enjoyed many games without paying for it.

But I've heard stuff about getting your console banned from Xbox Live.

If you play the scene releases only and watch out for nuked bad dumps, you should be fine. I haven't been banned from Live.

So it is impossible for me to mod my 360 if it's a recent revision using a newer DVD drive?
The unmoddable DVD drive is the Lite-On. It probably will not be hacked in the future.

Are you sure you have a Lite-On? The tray looks exactly the same as the flashable Benq.

i was thinking about getting the new 60gb version (hopefully it is a jasper... but dunno). they definitely have the lite-on drives, but i've heard some people are working on getting those to work w/ backups? I'm willing to wait until they do.... haha

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
