Hardware A bricked/busted 3DS real or fake?

so here i found a quite interesting video from chinese 3ds community.

so the dude in the video says that the cause of this is that he "accidentally" touched power button while entering the eshop...

so what's happening now is that he cannot enter any software, cannot enter setting, can't even adjust the backlight setting. on the top screen the indicate bar( time, power, play coin, etc) won't show up either.
and the game card inserted does show up, but the icon doesn't disappear if the card is removed, also. if another card is inserted( in this case is samurai warrior -> resident evil merc), the icon won't change.

and he said that turning the power off won't do it. take out the battery won't do it, and he has no way to reset the settings since he cannot enter settings...

so.... any idea how or why did this happen? imo i don't think he touched the power button while in eshop, but rather updating the system file, since it's the most possible time to cause a system fatal error like that.
