Wait, Nintendo's capable of actually adding features to a firmware release? Huh.

In case the PSA @hippy dave posted up wasn't enough:

Seriously, do not update past 7.0.1 (especially not an ipatched unit) if you want CFW.

So definitely there’s no chance for CFW in 8.0.0?

There's a software hack? I always assumed you had to either use a USB autoRCM or that dongle method.

Deja Vu will let you run CFW by loading a website in the browser on <=7.0.1. It works on both FG patched and unpatched system

Yikes, I just got the update notification on my phone while I was browsing the eShop.

I wasn’t prompted to update when I launched eShop, and I disconnected and deleted my internet settings immediately, so I think I’m safe.

But to be sure, how do I check if the update was downloaded?

If memory serves, instead of showing your system version in settings it'll say something like "Your system is ready to update" if you have it downloaded.

How do people have cfw on a patched unit? I'm pretty new to the switch hacking scene is there a software exploit in a certain firmware to get cfw on patched units?

From what I understand there has been a "secret" (unreleased) software exploit for some time, and now that Nintendo has patched it, there's no reason to keep it a secret anymore.
