Ok, ya it's April 1 but this is actually real.

Thanks to Geoff Embree for spending his time to translate the game.

So 7th Dragon is finally patched from this site: http://cavespeak.org/post/81360331389/etrian-odyssey-retold-yggdrasil-no-labyrinth

Now the author of the patch says that the patch itself is not perfect and he will be updating it later if there are any issues. He claims it's playable.

The link says the patch is for Etrian Odyssey however that was the April Fools part. If you read the readme file, it is clear the patch is for 7th dragon (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/94x6t6xwm9q9znd/XQnRQDxXLD/readme.txt)

Steps to patch
  1. Download the patch here (ignore that the file says Etrian Odyssey): Patch
  2. Then download the patch GUI application: xdelta UI
  3. Then get the Japanese version of the game
  4. Run the patch
  5. Play game on emulator, NDS, 3DS, or phone (via emulator)
I have tested at least the beginning 10 min on my (Android) phone (using DraStic)

Oh nooo.. you ruined the joke :P
Sega actually DID send a C&D for the ones behind the first project (unrelated with this one), back in 2009.
I think this was the only way the second translation team managed actually to do it. As an April Fools Joke. Technically they didn't send a C&D to this second project... but is it all right to talk about openly?

I am pleased.
I just patched the ROM, it's working perfectly.

I wish there was an English patch for 2020 too though...

Oh snap, just jizzed mysef.

Although, I wish he released a version WITHOUT hacks too.

edit: he has 1 hacked version and 1 just translation version in the file.

so how is this game? is it like etrian odyssey? or is it like final fantasy 1?
what makes this game special and playworthy?

From what I understand, it's a mix of Etrian Odyssey and Final Fantasy. It apparently works like Etrian Odyssey, but plays like Final Fantasy. I haven't seen any videos of the game or actually played it, so that's just what I get from what I've heard. It might be totally inaccurate.

It's special and playworthy because...well...right now I can't even remember, because I'm just so excited. When I've played it for a bit, I'll get back to you about this part.

I am trying to patch 7th dragon with the patch file (7th Dragon v1.00.xdelta) and get it working on the m3 lite perfect. Anyone have any experience with this? The unpatched rom works great except for it having no english but I cannot get the patched rom working. It crashes when loading with the m3 lite perfect on my DS. The patch rom also works fine on a NDS emulator.

I have tried every setting I can think of with the m3 manager patcher tool.

Any ideas?

Alright, its literally Etrian Odyssey but instead of the first person mazes and menu based towns, it has Final Fantasy overworld and town.

Its a shame I'm not really into the low exp rate and the skill menu... in etrian odyssey, i always felt like I was investing in all the wrong skills in all the wrong ways :/

Probably something to do with the infolib or anything similar the M3 uses, i think. We had something similar happen on the DSTT (and other R4 Clones) when we released the Lufia DS Italian Translation. We needed to add the patched rom info on the database.

The original JPN rom works fine but the translated loads very slowly and when finally loaded it freezes. Not sure what to play around with since I do not want to buy a new flash card to play the translation and emulator is out since I want it portable.

I was able in the past to get Saga 2 working on the M3 perfect flash card but it required a custom AP fix to get it running and not have it crash at certain parts in the game.
