576i has more lines, resulting in a "better image", but progressive beats interlaced any day.

Might I remind you guys that some games that run in 576i
might stutter a little? ( Mariokart, Monsterhunter tri etc..)

This is because the framerate lies at 50 Hz in 576i.
Metroid prime etc run just as smooth...

576i (50Hz)< 480i(60Hz) < 480p(60Hz)

The thing is, 576i runs at crappy 50 Hz. Both 480i and 480p at smooth 60 Hz (~NTSC). Sure the resolution of 576i is a bit higher than the other ones, but the overall quality is worse.
