With kernel we can write an app or keybind to send the off command to the damned game pad.

Mod apps and games!

More permanent way to launch apps

Agreed about the raspi 2. Just get that, punch kodi or osmc on it and enjoy, not sure about osmc but kodi even uses hdmi-cec, so you can connect the microusb to your TVs USB-port and for example your WiiUs HDMI cable to it and control the interface with your TV Remote. It seriously doesnt get easier and lazier then that and costs as much as eating 2 good pizzas

https://osmc.tv/ supports HDMI-CEC. It's just a minimal Debian jessie fork dedicated to running Kodi. I also install https://github.com/mcobit/retrosmc over OSMC. :D You can install any other Debian packages you want too unlike OpenELEC.

For a long time now, Hykem has not updated and given any word publicly about his progress, or whether he still plans to release. Maybe the ugly community forced him back "underground" and maybe he is collaborating with some folks behind the scenes. Until he publicly states using one of his own social accounts or here, take that as the latest.

He may not have updated on his account here or on twitter but he keeps updateing wiiubrew.org so he does update but not on user level. Someone who can't program like me can't do anything with the information but the people who can will learn more and more so let's see where it will bring us.

5.5 Exploits are as real as my pet Bigfoot... see I have a picture so you know it's real. I will be presenting her to the Scientific community before the end of march.

Edit: Sorry real life happens so I wont be presenting my bigfoot to the scientific community and I have had to delay it indefinitely.

I'm at least holding out on 5.5.1 until some homebrew emulation can be done. I don't use my Wii U much anyway. Would at least give me a reason to play it some more if smealum releases his nand work for use, but I'm totally patient and will go back to playing 3ds, lol.

.....

Time continued to go by but the harassment reached critical and I think he may have just had a "screw you guys, why should I put up with this stuff when there's more important things in the world" attitude (don't quote me I'm speculating).

That's just not correct. He is still updating almost every single day, and spending a great deal of time documenting and publicly releasing his findings. You can see the work that is being done here. http://wiiubrew.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges

I'm just tired of all these leaches on the scene. I want people to create homebrew and game modding tools (thank you for your contributions btw). This is the reason why I released the first tools to decrypt 3DS NCCH partitions, worked with Comex on IRC to create the first smash file un-packer for 3ds, worked on Wii U home brew and the OSDriver kernel exploit.

Yea no worries, i know exactly what you mean. Aside from modding i don't really see much of a reason for general public to have hold of any higher privileges just yet. Most of the modding work needs to be done by those who know what they're doing to build the scene anyways, so most end users won't even be able to use it for playing mods for a while. It'd be great if modding were possible entirely without access, but afaik that's not possible :/.

Homebrew is alive and well: https://gbatemp.net/threads/5-5-0-progress.410558/

There's pretty much no reason to need privilege escalation to kernel for any purpose other than piracy. Don't expect myself or anyone else to be releasing new kernel exploits any time soon.

Actually yes, a few people are waiting for 5.5.0 to get Cafiine working to get into Wii U modding.
I'm not one of them btw since I'm on lower firmware, but just saying, it does affect people who don't care about pirating too.

Yepperz, i already mentioned that :P

Yes, that is an issue unfortunately. :/ Right now if people want to mod games they can purchase an older console.

Could probably just run kodi on your pi, and use the Wii U's gamepad TV remote to control it via HDMI-CEC, it's about as good as kodi on the Wii U is going to get. It's not a viable project at all imho.

Or if the sole reason you want kodi on Wii U is the tablet as a remote (seriously, you dont want to watch movies on it, if the battery would even last through one) is just code a remote app for the wiiu, send the commands via wireless, the API's are there.

Kernel access won't get you permanent installs, it already doesn't.

These apps already don't exist for the exploits that are available now, releasing more exploits for newer kernels won't change that.

I have a kernel exploit for 5.50 so yes, I did answer your question.

Wow, everyone seems to have the exploit but "Doesn't want to release it". Aha! Now I get the game here :D

I too have an IOSU exploit and a Kernel exploit, but I don't want to release them now (until you all beg me and make me popular).

I lost count of the unreleased 5.5.0 exploits after maybe 5 or so lol. I can totally understand if they don't ever intend to release it or only want to share it with other members of the homebrew community but why even flaunt it at that point? Although I guess even I like to brag sometimes.

I too have received a 5.50 exploit! It's confirmed to be unpatchable. I am timing it's release with along with the release of Gateway Team's newest Wii U product. Coming soon(TM) to a store near you! :rofl2:

I have been looking for a minimalistic, berrybootless way to run both retropie and kodi for a while. Thanks for the hint

No problem. My setup works AWESOME!

For repos install:
https://superrepo.org/get-started/
https://www.tvaddons.ag/fusion-installer-kodi/
https://www.tvaddons.ag/addon-installer-kodi/
https://addons.tvaddons.ag/show/repository.unofficialquasar/

https://github.com/popcornmix/repository.popcornmix (install the Shadertoy addon for cool visuals)

I recommend this for controlling your TV from your phone (I use Yatse on Android):
https://github.com/joshjowen/script.json-cec

I have https://www.privateinternetaccess.com so I use http://brianhornsby.com/kodi_addons/openvpn to manage my VPN connection.

For video plugins:
Quasar (Torrent),1Channel,Genesis,StreamAllTheSources. Also pay for https://real-debrid.com/ for faster links.

And of course https://github.com/mcobit/retrosmc for RetroPIE.

If you use Pandora download Pandoki http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=205547 Lets you skip ads and download songs.

If you have an Android phone I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.airaudio&hl=en to stream AUX out on my phone to multiple PIs over AirPlay.

If you want torrent client other than Quasar that you can manage remotely use Deluge http://www.howtogeek.com/142044/how-to-turn-a-raspberry-pi-into-an-always-on-bittorrent-box/ You can use http://www.transdroid.org/ to manage the web interface from your phone.

Sure the scene can be a piss match at times... However, I can assure you the big boys actually know what they're talking about. How do you think anything ever gets leaked if it's all fake?
