WiiWare's restrictive 40MB file size has caused a few casualties in its time, with promising projects making the jump across to other formats where there's a little more room to breathe. While we still don't know much about 3DSWare, other than this fetching (if temporary) 3DSWare logo, a new interview with Nnooo's Nic Watt suggests we may see a larger limitation on the handheld's downloads.
Referring to the studio's episodic WiiWare shooter escapeVektor: Chapter 1, Watt said the game will be released as a bundle on 3DSWare rather than split into chapters. Interviewer Daan Koopman was quick with the follow-up question:

Daan Koopman: But since you want to put all those chapters together is it reasonable to say that the limits on the eShop are bigger than what we have seen before?

Nic Watt: I can't possibly comment on that at the moment, but we had an interesting conversation with Nintendo about it.
With Nintendo promising to improve the eShop we certainly hope an increased file size is one of the planned improvements. We'll keep you up to date.

Makes sense, the 3DS does have a 1gb internal memory this time around.
And hopefully the function to run 3DSware from SD card
Virtual Console will be able to run from the SD card (See manual).
I'm sure it said DSiWare only can be run from the internal memory.

3DSWare though, not sure.

how big are we talking the games to be? big sizes mean slower connections having more trouble but considering they are improving from 40mb, its not gonna be an issue. 400mb is fine but more than that will be too much of a leap... unless they have faith

If I have this right, retail games can be 2gb, the internal NAND is 1gb and the included SD card is 2gb.

Nintendo arbitrary "Block" measurement of storage has something like 15000 blocks.

Nice. That would mean more polished games. It'd also mean more expensive games but yeah, it's nice.

XBLA, PSN and Steam (who don't have such a small size restriction) games are more polished than most WiiWare games yet they're in the same price range so no.

1GB games, too me, feel just a little too big as downloadables, but 40MB is far too small.

1GB from a dedicated downloads server, through the internal WiFi would be able to be downloaded in 10 minutes easily. Couple this with the fact that the browser is not listed as software but can be used while software (3dsware shop) is running and you can waste time browsing while downloading.

So wait, how exactly will this bypass a user's internet connection limit?

'Cause that's a 2 hour download for me...

Also @title, "That's what she said".

How does avalaible space mean file size?

methinks nintendo learned nothing from the DSi, and they've fucked us all over with storage space again. unless we can play 3DSware off a memory card. in which case, go nintendo!

Remember, man. The 3DS had 512 of internal storage, and we did okay. Even if we can't use the SD card, it won't be game breaking.

why do you say that in the past tense?
the DSi had 256MB of internal storage. that was definitely game breaking for many, since that's not very many DSiware titles.
let's see.. i have 17 titles on my XL counting the three it came with. that alone filled up my DS and i even had to delete the web browser to fit the last one. (it was either the web browser or flipnotes - one of them had to go).
that's kinda.. bullshit. so if the 3DS only has 1GB and the 3DSwares are expected to be larger in filesize than wiiware then i think we're double fucked oreos all over again. i'm sure some people don't mind the nuisance, but it's just one more inconvenience from nintendo's apparently "next-gen" handheld.

Virtual Console games for the 3DS have been confirmed to run off of the SD card.

I don't see why 3DSWare can't.

They had said that the 3DSWare can (only?) be stored on SD cards, but what I'd like to know is will those games run off of the cards, or must they be loaded completely into RAM first? There's a mighty big difference there, with the latter being a problem with the Wii (as well as the limited allowed RAM usage).
