Hacking 3DS Usb cable

Has anyone managed to construct a data enabled USB transfer cable, or are there any schematics for one anywhere? Just a thought . . .

There is no USB port on the 3DS.

The only way to transfer data to it is throught the SD card.

Those mobile devices are made so that you can do that.
There is a USB charger, but it doesn't do anything besides charge.

You know mobile phone charging cables that are usb have the abilty to transfer data through them, It was made that way, The 3ds charging port was only designed to charge the 3ds battery, not to transfer data.

I'm certainly no 3ds Engineer but I think it's pretty much obvious you can't just make a usb cable and shove it in a devices charging slot that clearly had no usb capability. You might aswel make a usb cable for your toaster it would be just as useful. USB slots actually have some engineering behind them it's not just a random slot you can shove things into.

I kind of used common knowledge about it, No Nintendo blueprints are needed, I don't mean to sound rude btw just trying to explain it to you as it's clear you don't understand how usb works.

Well I use a USB Cable to charge my 3DS since I charge any of my Devices via USB (less hassle)

But a USB to DS Data Cable ?

I would like one for the Advance, those Flash2Advance and ECube Linkers had such cables... too bad they are hard to find nowadays. So if anyone has one...

It might be possible through the cartridge port (using a cartridge and a usb cable coming out of it) but that's only an assumption based on the CTR debugger Nintendo uses at
its conventions...(don't know the wiring, might be interesting looking at the board schematics at 3dbrew.org)

Thats what I was eventually getting at. Used to make all sorts of USB cables for the likes of NSGold, Griffin and CruzerFlash, if anyone should happen to stagger across the scematics for a cartridge, I'm more than game to have a dabble.

Talk about blunt! I'm aware I can't just shove a usb cable into it, as theres still a small amount of data being read for batt/stat chrg/stat etc its slimly possible to tap into this and read it via a pc. A schematic of the main board would be grand as would a cartridge one.

At eBay/Dealextreme you can get there DSi/3DS USB cables for only 2$ and they work perfectly fine.
I use it myself with the iPad Charger and mobile Akkupacks and charging is faster then the original Nintendo wall-charger

Through the charging port? Hell this kid down the street from me with his DSL he somehow got a USB cable for it. Not entirely sure what it did whether it just charged or what, been a couple years.

Yes to charge it, Usb slots in a pc have power going through them from your psu, The Power goes through the "kids" cable and charges the DS just like if it was plugged into a wall socket. However that doesn't mean it's capable of transferring data.

The charging port on the 3DS (and basically every charging port after the GBA SP) does not, I repeat, DOES NOT. IT. DOES. NOT. Take data.

It is a charging port.

No data is transferred over it.

In a USB cable, there are usually four wires. Two for data, one for ground, one for power.

These wires connect to the plug, and the plug sends each thing along it's merry way inside the device.

The 3DS's port does not have the input for the two data wires. So when someone has a 3DS USB charger, all it is is just a regular USB cable that has either had the two data portions severed (if it's homemade) or literally it does not have the wiring for data in it because it would be completely useless to put something in there if it is PHYSICALLY INCAPABLE OF RECEIVING DATA THAT WAY.

If I may add it's 5 Volts at the power wire if I remember correctly (or something around 5 Volts)
