Misc 3ds shutting down internet while closed

Hi, Today I messed with the "StreetPass Riilay" on my android which didn't work for my phone, but I just noticed something weird, while at home, my 3DS normally stays connected to my wifi but now every time I close the lid it goes into "StreetPass" and completely shuts down internet, no spotpass or anything.

Is this normal? I checked my router and it doesn't appear as connected and when I open my 3DS the signal goes from "StreetPass" to "Internet".

Maybe it has always been like that and I just never noticed it, or maybe it has something to do with my access point or something else entirely.

This is normal, and it's really annoying when playing Pokemon.
