I fully backed up my NAND, is it safe to fully update my EmuNAND to the latest 3DS firmware? Not sure if there are any problems, seeing it 'is' the latest firmware. And I'm not referring any issues to the DS mode btw, just issues within gateway mode. I believe I'm referring to the 7.0.0 firmware update.

I also read some issues when attempting to update the EmuNAND it actually updates the DS mode. Still a known issue?

I've heard that multi-rom support is around the corner, nice :)
So I want to buy a 32GB micro-sd card to avoid witching back and forth. Do I need to buy a class 10, or are class 6 enough ?

EDIT : Class 10 are like 3$ more. I guess I'll buy a class 10 and avoid trouble in the future...

class 10 if it is 3$ dollars of course.

i do appreciate the answers i got but it did not actually answer the question i asked is anyone else was having an issue after using a DS mode flash cart then using the gateway
and if someone says have you turned it off or have set up emunand assume i have and stop asking stupid questions as i have been working with hacks/mods for a long time i know what i am doing.
back to the main question a simple yes i have or no i haven't would suffice as the only way i have found is to re-install the hack to get it working again.

Everyone using the 3DS in DS-mode has these "issues". From the official FAQ:
"Is the blue card required for every power cycle ?
No :- Our custom Gateway Installer DS app is only required to be run once to setup and thereafter any time the console is used in DS mode."

So what's the consensus/experiences on updating EmuNAND to 7.0? I'd need that to download Pokemon X/Y v1.2 update to use online features. What does it break?

EmuNAND 7.0.0 currently has no eShop access, so that's the problem. You need 7.0.0 to have eshop access to download the update, but eshop doesn't work with Launcher.dat 2.0b1.

If you can already play pokémon in 6.3.0, do not update your EmuNAND, it's not needed and you will lose other functionality (like region free, and access to settings).
If you are not in 6.2.0+, you can update to 7.0.0 to play pokémon, but you won't have online access.

I'm having issues with my r4i. When I boot to classic mode, the system does not see my r4i with a rom on the micro sd card. It looks like it's loading emunand but there is no GW in front of the version 4.5 in the Settings.. I put a new folder on the emunand side.

If I boot in to r4i gold emunand mode, the rom will show and I can play. GW is in front of my version 4.5 in settings.

Is classic mode supposed to show the rom, or is that what the emunand mode is for?

EmuNAND Classic is for cartridges only.
EmuNAND Normal is for ROMs only.

The purpose of EmuNAND classic is to allow users to play their real games without updating their real NAND.
ROM works without updating RealNAND, but Cartridges need an updated system so using EmuNAND is the only method to play them without updating RealNAND.

Hmm. I put the r4i 3.0 launcher.dat file on a fresh SD card, I did not format the emunand., went in to settings and selected the DS profile w/o holding L. The sytem did the reboot and my r4i showed up and the rom booted.

Is the emunand booted when you select the ds profile w/o holding L on a fresh SD card?

No, not the EmuNAND. Just the standard R4i mode without EmuNAND. You can still play ROMs in this mode.

I got a problem with my gateway, games keep crashing upon entering new locations, making them completely unplayable, as I can not advance the story anymore. I read, this can be caused by file corruption and should be fixed by backing up the data on the sd card, formatting or replacing it and writing back the data.... I tried that, it doesnt work. I used the win32 disk imager for backing up and rewriting the data and the sd card formater 4.0, doing a full format of the 4gb sd card, that came with my 3dsxl... if corrupt data is causing it, then doing a 1:1 backup would copy and rewrite the corrupt data, too, so it seems pretty useless... so what can I do now? I wouldnt want to lose my savegames located on the emunand partition :)

edit: just in case, it matters... Im on 4.5 firmware with 6.3 emunand, using the beta 2.01b gateway version.. If I understand it correctly, the emunand savegames are located on the emunand partition and since Im not sure how to access that hidden partition to manually back up just the saves and then format everything else, the only option I see, would be to do a full 1:1 backup of the card using win 32 disk imager.....
so basically, what I want to know is.... how can I access the emunand partitition on my computer?

There are known save issues in the beta, I don't think I have heard of any workarounds. There is now a PC emunand management utility, please refer to this thread:

ere is a thread discussing the save issues in the beta:

if you had even cared to read the thread, that you are linking to, then you would have seen, that I posted in it too, so obviously I already knew about it
furthermore, does this tool only back up or inject emunands, this got absolutely nothing in common with my question how to access the emunand partition to backup the savegames stored in it, so I can set up my sd card completely anew, without doing a 1:1 backup, as this will always copy the corrupted files too

basically, I just want to know how to access the hidden emunand PARTITION on my computer, so I can grab those save files

edit: not 100% sure, but as far as I can tell, looking at my sd card, emunand save files should be stored on the emunand partition, not the normal visible partition, as the file change dates on the save files, that I can see on the normal partition are far too old, so I assume, that emunand mode sores savegames on emunand partition... ?

Nope. Mine are stored on the normal partition.

that is strange.... file change dates indicate, that I didnt save any games for at least a week, so I assumed, that the new saves ere all stored in the emunand partition o.O ..... so basically I could just do full backup for safety, the backupjust my save games, format the whole card to get rid of the corrupted files and then only copy back my saves? sounds too easy to be true, lol ... gonna try that now

edit: unbelievable, its still not working...
well, first of all, you were right, all save files are stored on the normal visible partition

here is, what I did... just to be safe, I made a full backup of the whole card using win32diskimager
then, seperately I backed up my gateway savegames
then I formated the whole card (whole, not just visible partition, but whole card, including emunand partition) to have a clean new setup and let the 3ds set up the new card (language, country and that whole stuff), then I backep up those settings ("Nintendo" folder), ran the gateway installer and then ran the gateway exploit and had it format the card and set up emunand partition
then I put my savegames and the backed up "Nintendo" folder with the system settings back on the card, then I used the emunand backup/injection tool to inject my old 6.3 emunand (I made that backup earlier today to test this new tool)
problem is, games still crash, when I enter new locations... so file corruption is probably not the case, because all files are new except the save files and my 6.3 emunand

so could it be a gateway problem? :/ is my card failing after all? :(

edit2:
tried a new sd card. just copied the save files and the launcher.dat on it to safe time and totally ignored setting up emunand, because it is not really needed to just test out the card itself
so I ran the games with 4.5 sysnand and they still crash, when entering new locations X.x

so basically, it has to be a gateway issue now, right? :(
