BTW, does anyone here know if Gateway TRULY supports trimmed roms? I always heard it's best not to trim them but with multi-ROM coming, it would actually be beneficial.....

I have never used a non-trimmed ROM for Gateway; that says it all.

PD: Just avoid the "Super Trim"/"Remove Update Partition" option

ahhh, ok I will try that. Got to go do that on my laptop, my desktop I don't have a standard sd reader. =\

If i just leave it alone and change out the micro sd rom, than my saves should be ok than right?

Yes, the saves will be saved to the big SD card.

Why could someone brick a Gateway with the FPGA update?
Serious question, I haven't had a flashcart that had required an update other than for its OS.

The Gateway 3DS incorporates complex programable hardware logic, this isn't any different than NDS Flash cards, many of them even use a similar FPGA.

If something goes wrong during the reprogramming of a FPGA, it is possible to just start over and try again. So any possible bricking is likely reversible, it all depends on the design of the hardware.

Quoting the Gateway team's release notes from the Beta:

Both nand saving, which will officially make us 100% compatible with all known roms, and FAT32 (drag and drop) based multirom support are now close to completion and entering into our internal beta testing. As you can imagine, both these features required a major revamp of our hardware's internal firmware, something we had known and planned for from day one so rest assured, unlike others, GW3DS is a fully featured and FULLY updatable hardware design.

Exciting times are ahead for us! It is very interesting to see the evolution of the Gateway 3Ds product.

Oh, I imagined something like this. Thanks for the explanation.

I am running into an issue with the gateway and wonder if anyone else has had the same problem.
I start playing a game from my acecard then swap back to the gateway and it wont load the gateway bypass at all so anyone know whats going on with that or is that why it is bundled with the blue card so you have to use that and no other cards?

Edit: just tested only using the gateway blue then to red and same issue.

looking forward to 2.0 now, gonna dump me my bro's X/Y and have fun, especially since I know that the rom-dump feature is coming in 2.0, sent them a message asking and got a response tonight (Australian EST).

Seeing I have the Gateway for a few days now.. I assume after I used the backup function, I can update the DS (not DS mode)? Just making sure and asking before I screw things up. I've read here and there that upgrading even to the latest version might be screwy.

BTW:
ICIDU Micro SDHC 16GB (Class 4)
OR
ICIDU Micro SDHC 32GB (Class 4)

^ Will this be enough for the Gateway? (model & class wise). ICIDU isn't something I'm known with and I hope that Class 4 would be enough.

I also know it's rather large in size for only 1 ROM, but multi-rom will be available later in the future.

You should reboot if you have been playing NDS games, then try loading the exploit. You can try formatting 3DS SD Card with the Panasonic formatter, then copying a backup of your files back. I have had situations where I had to reformat the 3DS and reinstall to get the exploit to work again. As always, be safe don't update your system NAND...

When I load the gameway through the profile, it seems to work fine (it can find the ROM I put on the SD card), but when I go to the system options it was showing the DS mode version, rather than gateway. When I go back to the main menu, the game is no longer displaying..

Does going to the system settings reset back to the DS mode?

According to their website:
Once you have entered into the System Settings application and clearly seeing the "GW3D" version number, enter into WiFi settings and set up a connection.

I don't see "GW3D" when I check the system settings.

According to their website:
If you have not set up EmuNAND, then it will show the normal version number. In order to see the GW3D version number, you need to set up EmuNAND first.
Going out of System Settings does boot you out of Gateway mode, so that is completely normal.

I hope they include a save dumping/flashing feature to compliment it.
That way you could rip your own games along with the saves.

I sent an email to them asking them if it was possible, so they might include that feature...

Something cool happened to me today (don't think it merits making a seperate thread so I'm posting it here). I was playing Resident Evil: Revelations and decided to try a new game so I hit "home" and "close" to write the save file to the SD. It froze on the dreaded "Closing software" screen and I was kinda pissed because I had not closed the game forever and would have lost a lot of progress. I thought hell with it I'll let it sit for a while. About 30-45 seconds later, it closed! Maybe the gaming gods heard my prayers? lol

If anyone gets a freeze on that screen, try letting it sit there for awhile. Might get lucky.

Yeah, some users reported that it proceeded after around 45 seconds... But other users also reported that it was stuck even after 10 minutes.
Like you said, you need to get lucky.
