How to backup using Win32diskimager?
I can only press exit..

Nevermind haha i found it,
Thanks alot

Just for the sake of information, I can confirm that the GW DS profile hack relies completely on the SD card instered. If you change it, you'll have to reactivate GW's Blue card hack.

OK guys, at last I'm doing the whole procedure by myself. I'm trying to simplify the steps according to everything I have learned about the hack in this forum so this is what I have done so far (ten simple steps):

1: Ensure the 3DS SD card has more than 1GB of free space.
2. Back up NAND and wait almost 1 hour (after this I entered to GW mode and failed, but this doesn't matter)
3. Copy all files from SD card to PC.
4. Select "Prepare EmuNAND" option and wait almost 30 minutes (after this I entered to "classic mode", but this doesn't matter)
5. Delete every file visible on the SD card and copy the backed up files to the SD card (except NAND.bin).
6. Without booting GW's hack, go to System Settings and delete all Internet settings (optional: also change the 3DS language to a foreign language); then exit to the main menu
7. Boot GW mode, verify that Internet settings are intact on emuNAND (as well as the original language).
8. Reboot the console.
(Optional and preventive). Double check that Internet settings are actually deleted from the actual NAND .
9. Boot GW mode, go to System Settings, check for the letters GW3D on there and go straight to System Update.
10. Enjoy the latest 3DS firmware.

By the way, if you change the language of your system, you may need to reactivate GW DS profile hack through their NDS ROM (Blue GW).

Also note that this guide was made assuming that the system had already a registered hostpot before doing the EmuNAND partition.

I am trying to update my EmuNAND now following your instructions. Couple suggestions... you may want to add a specific step for adding the internet settings and the settings under Gateway will say GW3D not GW3DS (small issue I know). Thanks for the guide! I'll let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: It worked! Thanks again! I did everything almost exactly as Kyogre did except for changing the system language. I also moved around the icons on my SysNAND Home area and made a folder so I could easily tell the difference.

Well... I assumed the user had one hotspot added already, but I'll add something for those who haven't set up any hotspot.

I remember I read somewhere that the gateway 2.0 beta has 4 mode right? what are they for? I know that 1 of them, emunand or something like that is to play most recent games like zelda or batman, but what about the other 2 ? this one has region proofing right? does it require any extra step to do? because most of the rom I can easily download on the internet or torrent are EU rom.
It's kinda confusing right now, so I better stay safe until 2.0 official release. As for now, all I can dare to do is backup my stock NAND. better safe than sorry.
Thanks.

Nope. There are 4 modes:
Normal NAND:
-Gatway Mode (only avaible without EmuNAND)
-Retail Mode

EmuNAND:
-Gateway Mode (there is a GW in front of the FIrmware)
-Retail Mode (to play retail games which need 6.X)

thanks for fast reply.
so the gateway mode in EmuNAND is for playing zelda and batman on gateway card right?
region proofing doesn't need to do anything else? that's good to hear.
oh, and we can play retail game on Gateway mode in either normalNAND and emuNAND right?

The gateway mode in EmuNAND is for using the gateway card. It doesn't work in any other mode.
Do you mean Region Spoofing? It makes everything necessary for you ;) But it works only in GW Mode.
Nope. You can't play retail games in GW mode. But you can play retail games on the realNAND (with 4.1-4.5) and on EmuNAND (retail mode).

that makes a lot of sense. Thanks. this should be on front page. I bet there will be more people who ask these stuffs again and again.
I wonder when will it be stable. some people say they accidentally update their normal NAND by updating emuNAND. I really wanna transfer my projectXzone and phoenixwright game from my other 3ds to the new 4.5 ds. I don't have much time left, damn. Gotta sell the 6.3 to another one before I leave US after my college.

There are so many things which should be on the front page...
I already updated my EmuNAND twice and my real NAND is still on 4.5.X. I had no problems at all. But system transfer doesn't work since it would reboot your 3DS (which exits EmuNAND).

We need to make a proper FAQ/guide with a lot of answers.
It will take time to gather all the questions asked this past week, but I'll try to do it next week, and sticky new helpful threads instead of the current ones.

Edit:
And maybe create two of three Wikitemp pages.

thanks Cyan. i will help a lot.

Anyone tried Data Transfer from another 3ds to the emunand with success? I failed. I want to play my pokemon x (bought on the eshop on another 3ds) with the Gateway.
Is it possible to make a rom of downloaded eshop content?
Also is there a possibility to backup the emunand?

the content originally bought from another 3ds. i think u can't simply transfer into another 3ds. i might be wrong cus if it possible, there will be a lot of emunand backup that we can download and transfer into our own 3dsB-)

Will updating my EmuNAND to 6.3 affect my saves in any way? I don't want to update it and find that it won't take my lower firmware save or something like that.

Firmware the save is created on doesn't matter. Emunand is a feature to allow you to play Retail or eShop games so your current saves from roms are fine as long as you copy them before "format emunand". Retails saves don't work so you may have to reset the save and start again.

I'll only be looking at Ace Attorney 5 if anything from eShop. What other benefits are there for updating to v6.3 EmuNAND? I realise that v7 might be coming soon
