Gaming 3DS firmware update

I need to know this info. Maybe it is unknown for now (i'm not sure) so sorry if it is...

If I transfer my DSi XL flipnote/brain age stuff to my 3DS via system transfer, will those 'apps' still be available on the XL?

Do you all really think the update will be that big? Did Nintendo say they were adding major features with the new update? (Please don't ask me to google it -_-. I'm asking because I don't know and am hoping that someone will tell me here)

They haven't said anything about fixes, but that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't working on fixes. See, unlike MS or Sony (and this isn't fanboyism, this is just a fact), Nintendo doesn't acknowledge there's a problem unless it's a really big problem. Otherwise, they tend to sweep it under the rug and fix it when they decide to fix it. The black-screen thing has been documented in the media, and Nintendo's response was merely to tell people to update their firmware, and if they still had problems, return their systems. They never went into detail about fixing it. They never focus on the negative, rather always trying to maintain that happy Mario fantasy world that makes many of us feel all nice and toasty inside. Hopefully, though, a fix for that issue will be in the update. At $250 for a handheld system, the 3DS should be whistling Dixie.

I highly doubt it would remain on your XL after transferring to the 3DS. Nintendo wants you to have to purchase those DSiWare again. If they allowed you to keep the games after transferring them what's to stop you from giving the same games to EVERYONE you know that has a DSi/3DS?

Also, my streetpass no longer works with my co-workers 3DS, ever since we added each other to our friends list. We used to streetpass each other every day at work, collecting each other's puzzle pieces and whatnot. One night we texted each other and added our friends codes, and now our 3DS can't detect each other. We both get streetpass hits from customers in the shop, so we know our settings and hardware are correct. I've found many posts on this same problem throughout the net.

Did you or your co-worker change/remove/let die the battery? If that happens, you can no longer Street Pass with past contacts and would have to re-format to be able to do so again.

I'll download it straight away!
I'm itching for the release of the shop, I've always wanted DSi-Ware, as I've only ever had the DS Lite.
I'm intrigued as to what they will have for sale..and I'm hoping it won't be overpriced.
I'm also hoping for the shop to keep me entertained until Zelda OoT comes out.

I'm looking forward to the NetFront browser.

I can't understand why so many people want flashcarts blocked, Nintendo rips us off around every corner, re-sells ancient games which should really be included or released freely ...and people agree with this limitation on their freedom. I don't get it.

Anyways I am looking forward to the browser and the eshop.

Thanks for the response. Earlier today, he actually found this answer, and decided to format his internal memory back to factory settings. Then it worked perfectly. It turns out he installed the NYKO battery, and his system was dead during the process, resulting in this problem. It seems bad to have the 3DS plugged in while changing the battery, but I guess it's the only way to keep everything intact. I wish the solution to this problem was discussed more, as it took us about a week to find postings on why it occurrs.

If flashcards are made, shovel-ware will start coming out, just like the ds, remember? We had star quality games, then the r4 came out then all of a sudden Nintendo retaliated with imagine babyz, and the ds scene went to shit.

No, that is not what shovel-ware became prominent on the DS. Shovel-ware comes out on consoles because companies want cheap money.

Also, Nintendo didnt make Imagine: Babyz. Ubisoft did.

I can't wait for the internet browser, eShop and virtual console to come out! I have 252,377 blocks of free space to fill up on my SD card

From how I understand it, you can't run games of the SD Card. It will be like the Wii and DSi were the game will be copied to the internal memory and than run.

I can install and run games on my Wii's SD Card ever since the 4.0 update. I heard of the limitation with dsiware games but not anything else yet.

That's how most systems work, they depend on system memory being available to load the data in regardless of external space. It even mentions below your quoted section that system memory is freed up by moving most of your programs to be installed onto the SD, but it does suck that there is only a 240 item limitation on the Wii. Regardless, I'm hoping I get to make use of all those free blocks

Hey when does it come out? I'll download it straight away and I don't have to worry about flashcarts 'cause I'm not a pirate like that... Looking forward to the system transfer so I can get Flipnote off my friend's XL (he never plays it).
Just one question, how do you transfer flipnote? Via SD card? I'm not very sure about this system transfer thingy so sorry if I sound so dumb

No one really knows how it's going to work, I suppose it will be via SD card... maybe.

Nintendo's website mentions that DSiWare Transfer will be an application downloaded to your DSi, which will transfer your account to the 3DS with the data manager that will be released in May.

Not done via SD card, done via the systems themselves.
Most likely either over local wireless, or much more likely over the internet where it'll just flick a switch in your DSi's friendcode to make all your games join your 3DS account on the eShop.
