Welcome to the 5th issue of the GBAtemp Recommends Revival Project! This project is a weekly magazine feature where we share our favorite games and applications with you. The things we recommend may be "old school" titles, a Homebrew, a ROM hack, sleeper hits, an application, etc, but one thing's for certain, we think they are fantastic and deserve your attention!

GBAtemp Recommends!
Metroid: Zero Mission

Metroid: Zero Mission is a 2D side-scrolling Action-Adventure game for the Gameboy Advance, which retells bounty hunter Samus Aran's epic story to destroy the embodiment of all evil, Mother Brain. It is the sixth game in the Metroid series and was published in the US in February 2004, Europe in April 2004 and Japan in May 2004.

Zero Mission, despite some beliefs, isn't just a simple graphical update of the original NES Metroid. It is an entirely new and enhanced remake which features a completely new retelling of the story, dozens of new and advanced refinements, new power-ups, new boss-battles and much, much more. In comparison, Zero Mission is a completely different game to the original.

The story follows Samus Aran, the inter-galactic bounty hunter, who is sent to the Space Pirates home world of Zebes. Samus' has just one mission in mind: eradicate the Metroids, artificial organisms which feed on the 'life energy' of their prey, created by the highly-advanced Chozo race. These Metroids are being used by the Space Pirates as biological weapons to destroy any being that dares oppose them. It's up to the player to destroy the planet and it's guardian that we've all come to know too well, Mother Brain.

If there is one minor problem with the game, it would have to be the length. It'll only take most players about 6 hours to complete even on the highest difficulty level. Even so, those hours of play are golden, and furthermore, there is a lot of replay value. Zero Mission will definitely keep you occupied for a while. Besides the three levels of difficulty, the original Metroid game for the NES is an unlock-able and playable extra.

Metroid Zero Mission would have no trouble passing for an entirely new entry into the highly popular Metroid series. Despite being a remake, it plays and feels like an entirely new game. Whether you loved the original Metroid, have never played it, or even if you maybe disliked it, this is definitely a game you don't want to miss.
