Hacking 2.0.0-2 update includes Auto-Updates

Well according to this post in 3DBrew that clearly says:

2.0.0-2June 6/7, 2011 Nintendo eShop added, web browser available, System Transfer added. Full DSiWare/3DSWare data management available. Automatic system updates added. Available June 6 9:30PDT.

It is possible that some people is still believing the information is fake, here are more proofs, in the update, the spotpass protocol changed, now it downloads information from a new server that is supposedly to contain automatic updates to the system (source, 3DBrew)

im pretty sure that the info from nintendo just said "AUTOMATIC UPDATES", not "AUTOMATIC SYSTEM UPDATES"

they didnt say what exectly would be updated automatically. and they didnt say that EVERYTHING would be updated automatically. Given that information, a major update to system menu v 3.0.0.3 could be a manual update.

But nintendo wants anyone who uses a flash card to just be afraid. im not taking the auto update message from nintendo any more seriously than the disclaimers on their games that state that modified hardware will become bricked.

Yes, and according to that page, only manual system updates may brink your device, not the automatic updates. It clearly states that automatic updates will only update the wireless access point and cuss word filter, nothing more. Relax people.

In the next sentence the manual said "No such notice for these and other automatic updates will be displayed on the screen"

It's entirely possible they could sneak in automatic APcheck database updates in (to block cards). It's not system critical data so there's no risk of brickage if the user turns off the system during an update. It'll just try again later.
This is entirely feasible -- expect it.

That's right, the major updates are manual. That's what it says in the manual, page 25.

This could be the reason people are experiencing shorter battery life in sleep mode since the update... If periodically it's checking some server to see if new information is available and/or updating.

My sentiments exactly. A lot of discussion around these parts regarding "hacking" the 3DS is 95% speculation based on 5% fact. Even something as mundane as these "automatic updates," which are disabled quite easily by the way, just has to be picked apart based on mere fibers of evidence.

Settings - Internet Settings - SpotPass - Automatic Software Downloads and then select No.

Ugh... how you are surprised, people? DID YOU READ THE DISCLAIMER when you updated it? It gave you the option to turn them off.

ALSO, it gave you the option to turn off wifi altogether to avoid this whole mess.

And it's not talking about firmware updates; can you imaging the trouble they would receive if it automatically connected without you knowing in the middle of a huge FW update only for you to be "passing by" home or the hotspot and have it disconnect? FW brick much? Obviously they can't force you to update the firmware and if they are doing any such thing, it's just updating my fucking Pokedex app with new pokemon.

You guys worrying about this... shut up. Stop scaring people. Nothing bad is going to happen if you read up on shit before you MANUALLY update.
