    If you look here, AI marketing/scraper bots like Ahrefs, Meta, and OpenAI are currently scraping a lot of pages. @shaunj66 needs to do something about them, and I mean, find a way to setup blocking suspicious user agents.

    Just found out after spending hours at work setting up a new SMTP server, that Canon put the port setting into a hidden service menu instead of the normal admin settings???

    Canon are assholes. My Canon printer/scanner combo won't even turn on if the ink is out. Fuck you if you just need to scan a document I guess.
    Turned out there was a secret button combination that gives you an option to disable the error message. Seriously? Couldn't you just put a "Dismiss" button on the error screen?

    Blocking software features in apps based on phone model, not because it's not supported by your hardware, but simply because you haven't bought the newest one, should be illegal.

    Who does that and why? Only the phone manufacturer profits from selling new models.
    As app dev you have the goal to have a successful app. Locking features based on model without technical reasons is counterproductive.

    I am talking about phone manufacturers, yeah. It sucks seeing the built-in apps receive new versions, but having the new features gated because you're not on the newest model, even though they aren't hardware-constrained.

    Honestly, it also just sucks in general that engineers would spend their time developing ways to lock features like this instead of just leaving them be.

    Several times over the past few months, I've had to stop different people's computers from syncing everything to OneDrive and download their files again, because they didn't like it.

    Users not reading what they click ‘Yes’ on and Microsoft's forced marketing really is the perfect combo…

    Truth be told, that has saved a few situations when I was helping people who somehow locked themselves out of their BitLocker drives before – although, if Microsoft didn't have that on by default for people whom don't need it or know what it is, it would be simpler still.

    I've never used macOS for long in one sitting, but today, I had to rename a bunch of files on my brother's MacBook, and after getting tired of the right click -> Rename cycle, I tried pressing F2…which apparently behaves here as End, highlighting the last file in the directory, despite this not being labelled on the keyboard, and neither F1 nor F3 behaving like Home.

    Well, okay then, I thought, I'll just look up the shortcut for renaming a file in Finder and turns out, it's…Return.

    I haven't dared to find out how I'm supposed to actually open a file with a keyboard yet.

    Yeah macos shortcuts are a pain in the ass for people used to windows. Most stuff is done with the command key instead of ctrl, like CMD+O = open. For some file types you can instead press space to open a preview rather than opening it.

    tbh I think the terminal is more ergonomic than finder.

    I prepared a laptop at work yesterday so that it can carry out an important task.

    Today at T-minus 10 minutes, I found it boot-looping, because it updated Windows without my consent, and somehow borked itself to a point where its automatic self-repair wasn't working.

    While helping out a coworker with their brand-new laptop today, I found out that the graphical Windows 11 installer cannot create a partition table…

    It'll literally just pretend you don't have an internal disk unless you pull up Command Prompt and use diskpart to make a table manually.

    No, the specific integration that only works with Microsoft Teams doesn't count.

    When it comes to customization, Add-ons for GNOME... I can imagine that being a hassle for some, especially when you have to think about ehich ones are compatible with each other and which ones aren't. I just tend to be the most vanilla as possible, but with small additions. I went from vanilla gnome to using a dock similar to MacOS.

    (1/2) I don't know what gave you that impression, since I'm still a relative newbie. I like tinkering and troubleshooting, though.

    I'm currently running Arch Linux on my laptop with the KDE Plasma desktop environment. I used to use Ubuntu for around a year back in ~2016, but ended up switching back to Windows. I have been using Windows (XP, 8.1, 10, 11) for most of my life,

    Back when I played (1.x), when XIVPads was a thing and allowed custom CSS styling, I transposed cat ears (transparent background overlay) on my Lalafell and made the race display Mi'qote male. They didn't exist until 2.0.
