  • I prepared a laptop at work yesterday so that it can carry out an important task.

Today at T-minus 10 minutes, I found it boot-looping, because it updated Windows without my consent, and somehow borked itself to a point where its automatic self-repair wasn't working.

    Thanks, Microsoft!
I'm shocked to see that you're still around! Hope things are going well for you :)

While helping out a coworker with their brand-new laptop today, I found out that the graphical Windows 11 installer cannot create a partition table…

It'll literally just pretend you don't have an internal disk unless you pull up Command Prompt and use diskpart to make a table manually.
Got one of these bad boys for my girlfriend's PS One.

Is it really the address of the factory, and not just of the company's office within a larger office complex?

Not much Street View coverage in the area, but I believe it's this:

Are the specs on your about supposed to be formatted like this? I think they're broken... I also hope that you're having a grat day and whatnot.
How does Windows 11 still not have a system-level hotkey to mute the microphone?? And they removed the PowerToys extension that could do it…

No, the specific integration that only works with Microsoft Teams doesn't count.

When it comes to customization, Add-ons for GNOME... I can imagine that being a hassle for some, especially when you have to think about ehich ones are compatible with each other and which ones aren't. I just tend to be the most vanilla as possible, but with small additions. I went from vanilla gnome to using a dock similar to MacOS.

That seems to align with opinions I've seen from others: ‘GNOME is very good, as long as you want to use it exactly as the designers want you to.’ (Paraphrased from memory.)

For someone that I think is really strong with Linux, what are your thoughts on using it? What are all the distros you use?

(1/2) I don't know what gave you that impression, since I'm still a relative newbie. I like tinkering and troubleshooting, though.

I'm currently running Arch Linux on my laptop with the KDE Plasma desktop environment. I used to use Ubuntu for around a year back in ~2016, but ended up switching back to Windows. I have been using Windows (XP, 8.1, 10, 11) for most of my life,

(2/2) but I'm planning on fully switching to an Arch/KDEP setup on my main PC as well. I really like KDE.

I thought you would be one of the many that were used to this, LOL. Nice to see another Arch user, and a user who uses old versions of Windows.
Updated one of my character portraits in FFXIV.

Back when I played (1.x), when XIVPads was a thing and allowed custom CSS styling, I transposed cat ears (transparent background overlay) on my Lalafell and made the race display Mi'qote male. They didn't exist until 2.0.
I just installed Arch Linux with KDE on my laptop. The official installation guide was fairly straightforward, though I admit, I probably would've felt pretty lost had I not had prior experience using Linux.
I just found some prime Microshaft jank.

I'm trying to compare two images in two separate directories. When I double-click one, the Photos app opens. When I double-click the other, a second Photos app window opens. …But the first one also switches over to showing the second image. How? Why??
I'm putting together a portfolio website and wish to have a page with links to cool projects. If any of y'all have something I might be interested in, please feel free to drop a link.

The design of the site is a bit old-timey, so 88x31 buttons would be preferred, but not required. If you do have an image I can use, though, you can also specify the tooltip text.

Coming in the future to ask where did you get that GBATemp button from? I'm trying to find a perfect 88x31 webbutton that represents this site but I couldn't on the life of me find one that would be perfect
