@RunningSnakes

A quick question with latest revision r05-11-2021 of RA-HEXAECO (RetroArch-HEXAeco Edition) by @SuperrSonic...

I have tested a bit the updated mGBA Wii core and seems to run fine with most GBA games, but (in argument mode) when I enable any kind/type of frameskip (frameskipping) by configuring/setting it to "auto", "fixed_interval" or anything else that is not "off" it works but makes the emulator crash/freeze when I exit from the current game or the emulator.

How does it work for you?

For me it doesn't let me to exit from that core when "frameskip" is enabled.

Ok. I've tested Ultimate Winter Games & Super Monkey Ball Jr. through both Homebrew Channel & my Forwarder Channel.

Game Boy Model = Autodetect
Frameskip = fixed_interval
Frameskip Threshold (%) = 33

My very 1st test was through HBC testing Ultimate Winter Games. When exiting game to HBC, my Wii hung up.

Now after testing both games through HBC & Forwarder a dozen more times, I am experiencing no issues with the above settings saved. I am also loading other games within the same play session with no issues.

It is very strange I had the hang issue on first exit and I cannot recreate the issue. I'll test more & post results.

@RunningSnakes Please send me the results of your test when you have finished.

I'm using just forwarder channels, for load individual GBA games on mGBA Wii from RA-HEXAECO r05-11-2021 (as a Single ROM Loader). And with the problem of emulator crashing when trying to exit because of the enabled frameskipping it's a lot annoying.

I know some GBA games require the frameskipping for run them at a playable speed (Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Pokémon FireRed, Super Mario Advance 3, Tekken Advance, etc.). And this problem makes many people to don't want to play it anymore since it's annoying.

RE: mGBA Wii updated core issues

@RunningSnakes

So i was testing a bit again the updated mGBA Wii core of RA-HEXAECO r05-11-2022 with another name for the cfg file (calling in arguments for load/save a new settings.cfg file instead of old config.cfg) with Mario Kart Super Circuit, enabled the frameskip to "fixed_interval" and set the interval to "1".
Then, closed the emulator and it didn't crash but it returned to System Menu.

Maybe it's a conflict wth old settings file... :P

Only tested Mario Kart Super Circuit by now, i'm gonna try with other games for see if it's caused by a conflict with old config.cfg file

@SaulFabre

I've tested several games with different frameskip settings. I have not experienced any freezing or crashing.

I am testing with latest November 05 2021 core.
I know. I saw that supposedly is caused by an obsolete config.cfg file which is causing conflict with the new update of the core.

and mame core cant run other cave roms?
i don't think so :P

if i boot fb alpha (no pgm no psikyo) wich platforms are supported?
some basic arcade machines (such from the games Pac-Man, The Simpsons, etc.)

PSIKYO compatible ROMs...
dragnblz.zip
gnbarich.zip
gunbird.zip
hotdebut.zip
mjgtaste.zip
samurais.zip
soldivid.zip
sbomber.zip
s1945ii.zip
tengai.zip
@RunningSnakes
How did you manage to run the Tengai arcade game (tengai.zip) in Final Burn Alpha Wii using the Psikyo core (fba2012_psikyo.dol)? Loaded there in latest RA-HEXAECO but after it boots throws ISI exception (not DSI exception, do not confuse with ISI), and a few seconds later, it returns me to HBC or Wii System Menu.

Any help? Thanks :)

I'll test that game and post results.

@SaulFabre

Edit:
I tested tengai.zip and getting the same ISI dump you experienced. I'm going to try an earlier version of the PSIKYO.dol to see if I can get it working. I though they were all tested working and maybe later version(s) broke compatibility for that game, but I'm not 100% positive.

theres an updated ra-hexaeco on May 7, 2022
May 7, 2022
-Bugfix: 3DS input is always hardcoded when the menu is enabled.

May 6, 2022
-Added: 3DS Controller support (from: https://github.com/extremscorner/emgba)
-Added: Native Control Stick setting.
-Added: CPU filters from main RA - normal2x_height and normal2x_width.
-Updated: SNES9x2005plus/2010 cores to latest.
Note1: "Native Control Stick" is to increase compatibility with 3rd party controllers.
For example a PS2 to GC adapter with the stick 'down' gets read as 'up' -- With this
setting the values get read like normal and makes the stick work correctly (at least in-game.)

Note2: 3DS as controller is a bit picky in RA because loading a rom resets everything,
it kills either the thread or network connection, so in other words you must either:
load a game via arguments with the setting pre-enabled, OR turn on the setting and THEN load
the game, which will only work on the current game, and will require a core reload to use again.

Note3: The new CPU filters can come in handy, for example widescreen modded Genesis games
can have normal2x_height to maintain a perfect 2x scale vertically, and filter horizontally
which ends up looking about as good as regular normal2x but is much faster.

Yes, very soon.

I plan to release the update as a pack.

With the Official Retroarch now able to create their own individual core cfg inside their home folder, i'll be releasing a modified RA stand-alone pack of RA too.

Soon

anyplan to update stand-alone emulator releases?
yes but SuperrSonic maybe forgot to update some problematic cores: PicoDrive (still some slowdown on 32X/32X CD games and SRAM broken), PokeMini, Handy, WSwan (doesn't load savestates and some crashes occurs), and others.

But i think this also missed about the fceumm-mod_SMB1-3.dol core, as i've explained here:

Yeah i know it's offtopic but @SuperrSonic time ago added fceumm-mod by Tippek to RA-HEXAECO for support a romhack made by Corpse Grinder "Super Mario Bros. 1/3".

Read:

@SuperrSonic
But on December 23, 2021 this got updated for support the new 1.1 version of the SMB 1/3 romhack.
On latest RA-HEXAeco that fceumm-mod core didn't got updated, because when tried that core with the new version of this and it loaded but it is unplayable due to severely corrupted graphics.
It only works with 1.0 of that romhack, which it's a shame because 1.1 has bugfixes and other changes, as i've explained in this post on GitHub: https://github.com/SuperrSonic/RA-SS/issues/42

If you want to test that new code of Tippek's repo with 1.1, PM me and i will send the 1.1 file.
(I couldn't compile the new core by myself :( )

Thanks!

Hopefully can these be fixed (Pokémon Mini, WonderSwan, SMB 1-3 hack emulator, Atari Lynx) on a next RA-HEXAeco?

Greetings :)

Close to releasing an update within the next day or two.

I love Hexaeco but the Official RA has become something next to great, so i decided to use the Official RA cores for this project.

I added ZX Spectrum fuse and Amstrad cap32 but these emulator cores require Classic Controller to work properly. Also added both Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 all with forwarder channels.

You will see i have created another apps directory folder named "ra-modified" with a forwarder channel where i use All other RA cores without their own channel. You can use this folder for all cores that you download from my links. It is nothing more than another path folder that has no conflicts with the Official RA without modifications and also has it's own forwarder channel.

This is how i use RA now days.

Hexaeco-SS is not forgotten. FBA, MAME, CPS1, CPS2, Neo Geo will still be using the updated SuperrSonic cores.

Updated RA-PCE-SGFX to RA 1.10.3.

Updated RA-RetroArch Modified ...
PICO-8 (new nightly core)
TG16 (both cores updated to 1.10.3)
FBA cores added (FBA,CPS1, CPS2, NEO)

The FBA cores require Classic Controller to work properly but work 100%.

NEO VM are not supported so please use SS-Hexseco to play those games.
