Hello there. I read about the DS Download Station and making a custom DS Download Station. Is it still a possibility? If stuff like this isn't allowed, please disregard this post.

If the first option isn't possible, I also have an R4i 3DS. I heard something about the Download Station distribution with it. I don't know anything much about it though.

This is the Wii section, not the DS section.

I'm not familiar with the 'download station', if it downloads homebrew then this kind of Q is fine, but if it downloads warez then it's against gbatemp rules to be asking or sharing that sort of thing.

Sending software from Wii to DS:
https://github.com/FIX94/wii-ds-rom-sender

No idea how to modify DS Download Station with own software, but I would say those should be possible to run with an R4 on a DS (search the Download Station ROMs yourself if you want them).

The Wii DS ROM sender is a cool thing, especially for DS with FlashMe or 3DS with Luma3DS not requiring Haxxstation at all.

This seem interesting.

Nintendo Channel for Wii had its own "DS Download Station" section for get free demos of some DS games (for example, Sonic Colors).

Since WiiConnect24 is discontinued, RiiConnect24 (http://rc24.xyz) allows you to use Nintendo Channel again.

But first try using @FIX94's tool for send DS ROMs from your Wii to your DS.
https://github.com/FIX94/wii-ds-rom-sender/releases/tag/v3.3

I'm sorry. I'm kinda slow to this technical stuff. I have the DS Roms for the Wii/DS. How do I perform the procedure?

Simply copy the ROM "DS Download Station – Volume 1" to your SD and rename it haxxstation.nds
Then start the DS ROM Sender while having usable DS software or GB/NES ROMs on the SD. The ROM sending app will make use of Download Station and exploit it. Your DS will first "download the Downloader" and then you can download arbitrary DS software.

But keep in mind: This is very, very limited. The RAM of the old DS is only 4MB. Everything that is bigger will not fit (you can't "stream" software with this – it has to fit into RAM completely in one shot). That means you will not be able to upload any full commercial title (DS cartridge ROMs start at 8MB and go up to 512MB). Special demo versions fit (they are designed like this). Many homebrew apps can be used with this – including NES and GB(C) emulators which come with the ROM sender.
That has practical use: It allows playing NES/GB on a stock Nintendo DS without a flashcart. Don't use it for huge games that absolutely need saving (Pokemon) since turning off the DS means losing all progress. All NES games will fit into RAM and most GB(C) games – some GBC games have 4MB+the emulator… means too big (very few GBC games have 8MB).

Well, I won't be using it for full versions of the games. Just demos and special distributions (if there are any left). I am mainly focused on the MegaMan Starforce series.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
