It's no secret at all that Ash Ketchum is Tajiri's self insert. Unfortunately, that just makes me resent him as a character even more. The dude is such an imbecile that, for as much as I was enjoying everything else about gen 7 pokemon, I couldn't tolerate two episodes of the like series because Ash is still the same offensively stupid personage he was from gen 1.

I don't even want to hear it from any fanboys trying to say something like "but but the JP is better"... No, eff that. They've had literal decades to work on this, to not have localization of the script nailed down. I refuse to accept that excuse for other m, and I sure as hell won't accept it for a series with this many episodes under its metaphorical belt.

Detective Pikachu as a movie was the first movie in as many years I've actually enjoyed, and ultimately came to realize that because they didn't have to pander to Tajiri by forcing Ash Ketchum in, they were able to have a better story as a result.
