Hi everyone in this forum, my friend borrowed my his new 3ds with games that's been homebrewed on there. I have been playing Mario kart 7 online, but after a while (a few months ago) the 3ds gives me system updates but I don't wanna update incase I brick the 3ds, but I do wanna play online again, the system tells me now that u can update without the internet now so I'm a bit confused. Can I update or will it brick the system. And if not how am I able to update the system to be able to play alone again.

Thanks to anyone that is of help.

* play online again

Make sure you have the latest version of Luma3DS. Hold (Select) on power on. In the top of the upper screen it should say
Luma3DS v10.2.1 settings

In case you have an older (but not very old) version this should suffice:
https://3ds.hacks.guide/restoring-updating-cfw

Updates with B9S/Luma3DS are safe (they will neither brick the device nor remove custom firmware). If you're paranoid like me, backup the NAND (again) before updating.

In case there is a new update in the future, check the GBAtemp forum and wait a few days. If there is any trouble, the forum will be full of it. Sometimes a new update was incompatible with Luma3DS which meant waiting a few hours until a new version is released (Search for the infamous "Failed to apply 1 Firm patch(es)" and the ARM11 crash with process PM if you are interested.)

Good luck and have fun!
