I think I remember getting a crash one time. And I was able to replicate it.
It was in the "Big'N Veiny" mission. If you get out of your way from the normal set path right at the beginning, and instead go somewhere around where you have to do the mission where you have to set 25 Triad members on fire with a Flamethrower, the game always crashes in a particular spot/turn near that spot.

It happened only in that mission, but going in the usual path works fine, and gaven't found another crash/freeze yet.

Thanks for the heads up Shadow, I'll see if I can find it later and report back what happens!

I forget what mission I was on when my freeze happened but I did try to replicate it after and was able to pass right through.

@GaryOderNichts if we were going to update, will there be an easy way to update or have to rebuild our WUP? Maybe there is a way to create a WUP update? Thanks.
That would be a good idea but I don't think you can pack updates using NUSPacker. There were some issues with it.
You could replace the .rpx using ftpiiu everywhere though.

I believe all of us needs to do test arounds, as I know from my testings if you replace the TEXT folder with some upgraded languages it doesn't influence on the fuctionality of the game in Wii U (I tested just in the first 2 missions I don't know if later will gives the problems or not). The same story it's with fonts.txd, from my testings it doesn't influence on the fuctionality of the game. But LOADSC0.txd, mainsc1.txd and NEWS.txd, I'm not sure. Theoretically, from my tests enaything that it's related to the languages, fonts and words you can mess up with the files and the game still boot up. The problems (for now) that I meet it's if you mess up with the graphical files the game it doesn't boot up, but I still under testing, and to apply the HD texture and build up the installation files can takes even 5/6 hours :wacko:. Try to mess up with them and replace them and test if the game will boot up....

This might be caused by DXT decompression and will be fixed in the next update.
(Same issues as the button hints and pause menu map).

does only the steam version work or can i use the 'gamefiles' from the retail 2 disc installation where one disc is audio ?

I thought it was the translation that caused this, because before when I installed without it this did not happen.

I spoke to the makers of re3 and the disc versions should work fine.
Make sure you copy the audio from the disc as well. It seems to be missing from a few installations.

I thought it was the translation that caused this, because before when I installed without it this did not happen.
Most likely the fonts from your translations are DXT compressed. This DXT decompression currently causes issues on the Wii U.

I made a new pack replacing only the american.gxt file.
The game is working and without those stains in the texts. It was without accents since I did not use the fonts.txd of the translation but it is fine.

I'm up to around 53 missions now, already opened the last island, and I got a weird crash twice now.
I'm doing both the "Escort" and "Bait" missions, and while doing several attempts, I got a crash with the text "RE3 ASSERT FAILED" or something similar.

I'm not sure what this might be.

Also, @GaryOderNichts , I'm running the game from the SD card as a homebrew app, I didn't install it.
Maybe this can help to debug the issue with the slowdowns after long play sessions.

I noticed around internet that not all the TEXT files are the same, which means you can find some one more smaller file with less wording, and I believe it's from the previous versions of GTA and someone are slightly more words as the one that Gary pre-packed (or even more words) . So I believe that there are different versions of TEXT and maybe the upgrades adjusted some languages (like in my case with Italian) test different TEXT and open them with ex Editor if from English to your language have the same line scenario..... otherwise will appear the strange simbols around if missing for some particular scenario in the game.

That will let you know which of the asserts fails and the exception handler might catch a few other crashes.

Oh I already finished the mission in which it happened, and it seemed to be random, so I couldn't really replicate it easily.
I'm already about 60 missions in. Will let you know if I find something else.
These last missions are really kicking my ass lol

For example the two controller options don't seem to allow you to make it so the top face button (X on the Wii U) steals cars, instead it's the right face button (Y). And it's not just that, I believe all the face buttons don't map where I'm used to. This is really messing with my muscle memory. Otherwise though, this is amazing, can't believe GTA 3 is on the Wii U despite never officially being so and running as well as it does at that.

I've redefined my controls to exactly that by using classic control in options, redefine and setting them from there to what I remember and it saves perfectly for every reboot of the game.

Just press A on the action you want to change followed by the button of your choice.

Finally got a chance to try this out. I've had issues the past couple days trying to get this to get past the optimising Video Card screen, turns out my SD Card is on the way out, I got a new one and that fixed my issue :)
The Game runs great! only a couple missions in so far.

I ended up going with the Channel method and made a custom Boot Sound if anyone's interested? ;)

I brought my Wii U over to my in-laws and my brother in law was playing and experienced a crash. He was outside of Luigi's during daytime in the streets shooting at people with an Uzi and switched to a shotgun and shortly after it crashed to a black screen with an RE3 error. I don't recall the exact error, but it hard locked the system requiring a reboot.

This is the only crash I've had occur in my experience other than changing the audio setting as I mentioned previously.

You my friend are the reason why I still have my Wii U and my PS Vita. I can't wait to try out the Mario Kart Vita release from Hex Vita that comes out tomorrow.
