Hello everyone,
Happy new year ! ^^.
Thank you for your amazing work ! I wonder if is it possible to make a portage on Wii U of Saturn Bomberman ? I'm a big fan of Sega Saturn's games (like Saturn Bomberman, Sega Rally, Daytona USA,...). Or make a portage of Power Bomberman (it's a fangame) ? Can you do it please ? <3
P.S. : Sorry for my english, it's not my native language :&

Hi @Jilou , also me I like the titles of Sega Saturn and Dreamcast ; but the problems of Sega Saturn it's that the games are concepted in a really strange way, it was so difficult to render at that time (as now) because these polygons are rendered in such strange way that it calls TIL. TIL, it's what Sega Saturn manage to render the polygons in FOUR sides and it's really unusual way for 3D, because this console at the beginning of the project was thought to render the high 2D games and then the 3D as Options....but Sega on the course of the "project journey" they changed them planning/project on that because was coming out the PS1, and tried with the same system (but improve some components) to make the rendering of 3D games and keep them strange 4 side of polygons instead of the world normal 3 sides of polygons to render and construct the 3D games.
For this reason, the Sega Saturn Emulators wasn't so popular easy in PC world till some years ago. In our days, you can see some nice Emulator for Android or for PC but to arrive in this wasn't easy and it needs the right implementation and so much optimization, and people that knows what they are doing with that.
So, why I told you this, just to let you understand that to port a game from Saturn to Wii U will be close to impossible if not using an Emulator....There is one Saturn Emulator for vWii that you can use on Wii U and it calls "Yabause" or natively the WiiU RetroArch, by Yabause I did try to run Sega Rally but with Sega Relly it's really unplayable, the problem is that it's not impossible on Wii U by the Emulator Yabause if the Yabause project hadn't been abandoned as per my understanding.
I wish, as you wish, that someone can continue with the project on Wii U ;).

To be fair, Playstation and Nintendo 64 can also use quads as primitives. They barely use them for obvious design reasons. But there are some Playstation games fully rendered on quads.

Yes, but this it's differet because the games are concepted in 2D into a 3D space, what I talking about, it's Polygons Rendering that construct the 3D object or Actors ......try to do the games as Gran Turismo or Tekken 3 with 4 points rendering insteat of the 3 points rendering, after I want see wich 3D games you can see .....

I'd just like to say how impressed I am at this port! After just a few minutes its running smooth as butter with FPS Limiter and FPS Sync turned off, and Draw Distance maxed. I'm not sure if those settings are actually changing anything, but nonetheless the game runs incredibly well! I did notice the settings revert back upon rebooting, but my controls saved.

Also, as a forewarning, DO NOT change the Audio Hardware setting...the game will crash immediately! Ask me how i know

Thanks Gary for the awesome work!

That's nice to hear.
Be careful with turning off the frame limiter though. Since the game was never intended to run at high framerates it can cause issues and crashes.

I played for about an hour with no crashes. The only slowdowns i have found are when its raining and your car is smoking, and a few various mixed situations of rain/sirens/heavy police activity, but still completely playable, possibly still better than the PS2. Daytime the game is smooth. I did a few of the Paramedic missions and Vigilante missions and had no issues there. I did notice that the water texture by the park bugs out and pops in and out but its not affecting performance or stability.

incredible. I created the channel and is currently converting the textures.
Doubt: I have a translation of this game into Brazilian Portuguese, my language. This translation replaced the LOADSC0.txd, mainsc1.txd, NEWS.txd, american.gxt and fonts.txd files. What I want to know is whether these files are important to work on Wii U or can I replace them so that the game is in Portuguese on Wiiu?

I believe all of us needs to do test arounds, as I know from my testings if you replace the TEXT folder with some upgraded languages it doesn't influence on the fuctionality of the game in Wii U (I tested just in the first 2 missions I don't know if later will gives the problems or not). The same story it's with fonts.txd, from my testings it doesn't influence on the fuctionality of the game. But LOADSC0.txd, mainsc1.txd and NEWS.txd, I'm not sure. Theoretically, from my tests enaything that it's related to the languages, fonts and words you can mess up with the files and the game still boot up. The problems (for now) that I meet it's if you mess up with the graphical files the game it doesn't boot up, but I still under testing, and to apply the HD texture and build up the installation files can takes even 5/6 hours . Try to mess up with them and replace them and test if the game will boot up....

Just reached the 2nd island, with around 30+ missions done, and everything is working well so far!
Aside from the water issues most people have addressed, I've been having weird slowdowns after some extensive playtimes.

For example, around the 1 hour mark and afterwards when playing in the same island, the game starts to drop frames like CRAZY, around or below the 20fps. It's even worse when there's rain or fog, lots of cars and smoke, then I dare say it hits the 10fps or lower in the most extreme of cases.

That happens only after playing for an hour or more.
I can easily fix it by quitting the game, and starting it again, but I have to do it every hour or so, as mentioned.

Aside from that, the only other problem I'm having is the Option settings not being saved, I have to set them up manually on each start.

What about the portage of Power Bomberman, it's a pc game, it's a 2D game ?
Also Sega Rally Championship there is a Windows edition as a rare PS2 edition, so I believe if SEGA already ported the game for Windows, in this case could be possible to ported for Wii U , the problems are the game that are not reworked and ported for Windows but keeps in Sega Saturn System. Yes, I believe for such games as yuo mentioned Power Bomberman or Sega Rally Championship or something else that was ported to PC, could be possible to port for Wii U. But this is not the topic here, and maybe you have to open a new topic and see what happen....

Hmm those slowdowns will be hard to debug.
I'll see what I can do though.
I'm already looking into the water issues. They'll be hopefully fixed in the next release.
I'll also look into the settings save issue. I can confirm this affects the custom settings added by re3.

Yeah, the moment I started getting the slowdowns consistenty, I knew they were gonna be psin to debug.
Still, hope the debugging goes well!
Will continue playing the current version, but will surely look forward to any progress being made.

Thanks again!

I can confirm the issues mentioned by @ShadowOne333. All except the slowdown which I have not experienced even after long plays. Maybe a little lag if there's a lot happening on screen but this does not last more than a few seconds.

I am also on the 2nd island with many missions competed but have experienced a one time freeze/crash prompting me to hard reset the wii u. All is well after rebooting however. I have not experienced it since.

The options save issue such as increasing brightness does have to be done upon every restart of the game but controller input changes seem to remain ok.

If it's any help to anyone, I should mention that I created the channel version as instructed on page 1 with the steam version however I did NOT create an re3 folder within wiiu/apps.....this was created automatically for me during the first boot of the game i assume as it does exist on my sd card now.

In relation to that, can I assume that the save file is located in wiiu/apps/re3/userfiles? I have 1 .set file and 3 .B files in there. I ask due to the possibility of an updated version release in future.... I'd hate to start this all over again!!

The folder structure on the SD gets created automatically. The saves are all in the userfiles folder.
The .set file stores settings and the .b files are the save games for each slot.
In case an updated version comes out you can simply reinstall the channel and your saves will be fine.

I would like to ask, if anyone in the Options set the memory low, medium or high? And what differences can noticed?

Thank you

I think I remember getting a crash one time. And I was able to replicate it.
It was in the "Big'N Veiny" mission. If you get out of your way from the normal set path right at the beginning, and instead go somewhere around where you have to do the mission where you have to set 25 Triad members on fire with a Flamethrower, the game always crashes in a particular spot/turn near that spot.

It happened only in that mission, but going in the usual path works fine, and gaven't found another crash/freeze yet.

Thanks again for all your work. If I find a bug I'll tell you.
I will follow your advice and go create a topic about the portage of Power Bomberman or Saturn Bomberman on the Wii U. Thanks for the advice.
