CD Projekt Red apologizes for poor Cyberpunk performance on last-gen consoles, promises updates

CD Projekt Red's highly-anticipated, long-delayed Cyberpunk 2077 has finally released, but some players are finding the performance lacking on consoles. Despite receiving a last-minute delay in late October, pushing the release date from November 19 to December 10, specifically to enhance performance on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players have been reporting issues such as reduced framerates, certain abilities not working and even game-breaking bugs. While these issues seem to exist primarily on base Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players on the enhanced consoles and even those running the backwards compatible version on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, are running into similar issues. It's worth noting that as of now, Cyberpunk is only playable through backwards compatibility on current-gen consoles, as the native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are not slated for release until Q1 2021. Controversially, CD Projekt Red only gave out PC codes for reviewers prior to release, possibly to obscure the issues plaguing the console ports from those with pre-orders placed. In fact, as of this writing, only two outlets have reviewed the PS4 version on Metacritic, not even enough to generate an aggregate score.

In response, CD Projekt Red released a statement today apologizing for the performance and laying out their plan to improve performance. The first update was released for PC and consoles over the last two days (Xbox received the update a day later than PS4 and PC), and another is expected within the next seven days. There are also plans to release two large patches aimed to fix "the most prominent problems," one in January and one in February. For those unwilling to wait for the patches, CD Projekt Red is offering refunds. If purchased digitally through Playstation Network or Xbox Live, you can request a refund through those channels. (While Sony's refund policy on Playstation 4 stipulates that you can't have begun to download the game, let alone played it, in order to receive a refund, users on reddit are reporting Sony issuing refunds on Cyberpunk.) Those with physical copies are encouraged to seek a refund through the store; however, if that is not possible, they can contact [email protected] for assistance, up until December 21, long before either of the large patches are due for release. It is unclear at this time if policy exceptions on digital purchases through Playstation Network will continue past that date or not.

They knowingly suppressed info from coming to light, days before the game publicly released, and had the most stringent guidelines for reviews

they aren't sorry for anything they're 'sorry' there's backlash

that was so wrong,

At the same time, AT LEAST for gamers who keep up with news, you should know by now to wait and vote with your wallet.

Them basically

It's not like they could've, dunno... not announce the game to come out sooner than intended and crunch their devs or what, ending up releasing a game worthy of the Bethesda name in terms of quality, eh.
Oh well, guess they can just "apologise" and finish the game later, no biggie, ain't that right guys?
Why pay people to bugtest your game when you can have them pay you to do that?

Game is great on PC. None of my friends had any crashes or any serious glitch either.
BTW, i ran it on a 3770K and a GTX 1060 6gb and the only glitch i saw was a rare occurrence of shoes not appearing on the char feet in the equip menu but ingame no graphical glitches yet. Probably just a texture loading issue as i've seen texture related issue is the most common things reported by PC players.
My guess is they were rushed too much to optimize console version properly and since consoles nowadays are pretty much just a low-mid range PC running a custom OS they probably did the bare minimum expecting it to work as well as low to mid end PCs.
Itl be fixed in the next patch since they are gonna focus on it properly now and its most likely not a huge undertaking once they isolate the issue.
Anyways, when a game build that much hype its always getting hit hard by anyone having any issues so can't say i'm surprised but honestly everyone is still talking about the game which is a good thing for them in the long run.

I don't think it should of been released on current gen, but then again they would of had a shit storm if they didn't. It was a lose lose situation on their part, atleast they're trying to do the right thing now.

For me it runs perfectly fine, but then again I do have an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 5 3600, 1440p on Ultra settings :-D

im sorry for off topic and sounding like a dick but it's "should have". "Should of" never makes sense.

I haven't watched any preview, gameplay video and only read a few old articles about the game before buying it (on ps4) and to be honest I really like the game. Maybe because I had no expectations, or no real comparison. But it's true that gameplay wise, a few things that they advertised at the beginning isn't here, and even if I don't really care about the graphics, some of the choices they made (crappy textures, blur, animations,...) to reduce the impact on the console are regrettable. I mean, it feels like it's a bad port of a pc game on console, which is a bit weird when you know that the project started on 2012 (the ps4 wasn't even out yet) and when you see what they have done with the Witcher series, done with the previous iterations of the RED engine.
I totally understand that it can't look like how it looks on a high end PC, but the lack of information about the console port, and even the misleading (I remember seeing a post on twitter about how the PS4/Xbox version were going to be graphically under the PC one, but that's an understatement seriously. It's really a shame because the game is really good imho, so I really hope that the next patches will solve a few of these problems because despite some annoying bugs, I really had a good time with this game.

Under-cooked and half-baked just like all the rushed overhyped games. I'm starting to see a certain pattern here, and it happens every time a new console hits the market when there needs to be a port released on each console generation. It happened with Assassin's Creed IV (nothing like the gameplay trailer; typical Ubisoft), and it happened with the release of this game. Ah, well. I'll have to wait until the game comes out as a "complete" edition or until it releases on PS5 officially (that is if I ever get one).

This easily wins the buggiest game of 2020. It's sad because the world is beautiful and the story is actually decent. But the bugs, glitches, stutters, dumb ai, and crashes really destroyed anything good about the game.

Played it on a Series X and had no issues, besides launch day where my xbox would freeze 3-5 seconds in the car, but later that day when I played it was perfectly fine. Lighting was perfect too (my tv is calibrated)... Their update to fix things actually messed up the HDR settings in-game which made the game look a bit dull.
Should've been a next-gen launch + PC only, less whiners about the hideous graphics and the outdated resources to work with to try and make it work.

Yeah, no problems here at all!! Been playing it on a 9700k i7 with a 980ti and SSD. Even without RTX it looks amazing, and I'm, getting 40-50 fps on high. Load times are great too. I'm actually quite impressed. PC is definitely the way to go on this one!

people saying this game shouldn't be out on current gens are just being kinda dumb, this game was made for current gens since if the game wasn't delayed like it was it would have been release like 1 year or so before you even had a ps5/xbsx available.
That is technically also what happened with BOTW on Wii U vs on Switch.
