CD Projekt Red apologizes for poor Cyberpunk performance on last-gen consoles, promises updates

CD Projekt Red's highly-anticipated, long-delayed Cyberpunk 2077 has finally released, but some players are finding the performance lacking on consoles. Despite receiving a last-minute delay in late October, pushing the release date from November 19 to December 10, specifically to enhance performance on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players have been reporting issues such as reduced framerates, certain abilities not working and even game-breaking bugs. While these issues seem to exist primarily on base Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players on the enhanced consoles and even those running the backwards compatible version on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, are running into similar issues. It's worth noting that as of now, Cyberpunk is only playable through backwards compatibility on current-gen consoles, as the native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are not slated for release until Q1 2021. Controversially, CD Projekt Red only gave out PC codes for reviewers prior to release, possibly to obscure the issues plaguing the console ports from those with pre-orders placed. In fact, as of this writing, only two outlets have reviewed the PS4 version on Metacritic, not even enough to generate an aggregate score.

In response, CD Projekt Red released a statement today apologizing for the performance and laying out their plan to improve performance. The first update was released for PC and consoles over the last two days (Xbox received the update a day later than PS4 and PC), and another is expected within the next seven days. There are also plans to release two large patches aimed to fix "the most prominent problems," one in January and one in February. For those unwilling to wait for the patches, CD Projekt Red is offering refunds. If purchased digitally through Playstation Network or Xbox Live, you can request a refund through those channels. (While Sony's refund policy on Playstation 4 stipulates that you can't have begun to download the game, let alone played it, in order to receive a refund, users on reddit are reporting Sony issuing refunds on Cyberpunk.) Those with physical copies are encouraged to seek a refund through the store; however, if that is not possible, they can contact [email protected] for assistance, up until December 21, long before either of the large patches are due for release. It is unclear at this time if policy exceptions on digital purchases through Playstation Network will continue past that date or not.

First thing they would do after this if they really cared is pull every copy off of shelves until the patches are released instead of selling it to still unknowing people. Second thing is come out on all these commercials and apologize and publicly state why they temporarily removed ps4 and xbox copies from stores.

-Can't buy food at any of the stalls.
-Most buildings you can't enter.
-Can't sit anywhere if my ass is tired.
-No miscellaneous activities (darts, golf, tennis, poker).
-Zombie population without purpose.
-Can't jump out of a moving vehicle (like GTA 5).
-No kicking, only fighting with fists.
"Cyberpunk 2077 will feature over 1,000 unique NPCs that have their own unique daily routines according to developer CD Projekt Red." What a load of crap.

I don't think it should have been released on current gen, but then again they would of had a shit storm if they didn't. It was a lose lose situation on their part, atleast they're trying to do the right thing now.

For me it runs perfectly fine, but then again I do have an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 5 3600, 1440p on Ultra settings :-D

Well, good on them to atleast acknowledge the major issues and to take the situation instead of hiding (Looking at you Bethesda, EA and Ubisoft). It would have been better if the game had been released without these issues, but folks now know atleast on when fixes should be expected.

This game is still a long way off being truly finished.

Tempted to return my copy and wait for the inevitable GOTY edition with all next gen enhancements and DLC etc.
the way this is going when they said fixes will maybe come out in january/february if they delays the patches like they did the game i can only see it being fixed for like summer so having dlc for a broken game maybe next fall or something with luck lol.

Also i doubt it will ever get a goty specially on consoles. maybe a complete edition xD

people saying this game shouldn't be out on current gens are just being kinda dumb, this game was made for current gens since if the game wasn't delayed like it was it would have been release like 1 year or so before you even had a ps5/xbsx available.

This is a shameful port imo, and seems the game is like in beta state, im guessing publishers were like , your not rockstar you cant make a gta every 10 years, you dont got the funds for it.

i will wait for the eventual next gen version when i actually get a next gen console that is :P

The game runs fine on my gtx 970, witch on paper is weaker that a ps4. So probably it is cdprojeck red that did not optimized the game properly.

Aside of that, for my taste, the game is awesome in every single aspect, except the combat and driving. Those aspects really hurt the game badly.

The combat is the worst offender, as you can find more imersive experience in ancient games like skyrim, gta 4, fall out 4...

The issue isn't GPU, you likely have a much more powerful CPU than an underclocked AMD Jaguar.

But you're right, the game hasn't been coded well for last gen. Many other developers have squeezed much more out of Jaguar, so these guys have no excuse.

It’s astonishing to me that after rolling back the crunch time policy, after delaying it so many times, they still released a game that’s just blatantly unfinished. CDPR really should have just kept their mouthes shut about anything regarding release and stopped making life more difficult for themselves. The good thing is it sounds like this will be a game worth getting eventually. But not now.
