Does anyone know why he leaves? Only because of the „bad“ people in the scene?

sorry someone else was mean. I saw some back and forth between him and others in the scene on twitter. Lot of begging. Honestly didn’t seem like much but yeah if i compare vita to ps4 scene there is a difference. I am just very thankful he released. I strongly feel if you have it should donate to him regardless. Edit actually he is apparently blaming playstationhax specifically which makes sense cause I didn’t see too much. I guess playstationhax accused flow of “selling his soul” to sony for the 50k bounty for hax. Wild. Who knew?

been racking my mind why sony would allow this then it hit me. They know exploited in private and new console now so all is lost. So they wanted flow to take bounty to see how hackers thought. To improve ps5 security. Terrifying really.

Man this brought a huge smile on my face. Atleast we know 7.02 is being worked on. I always said 7.0.2 was the sweet spot for an exploit. Flow never lets us down man :)

Red Dead Redemption 2, RE2, Days Gone, HItman 2 and more now would work. Only thing that sucks is I would have to get another PS4 grrrr. I already own all the games I would want but in physical form. But it would be nice to have them from hard drive.

Thanks for the detailed explanation :)

For me it is a normal thing.. He is very talented in that what he's doing so why not..
The problem is that there are not many that will release anything and that means that there will be no PS5 scene I think

PS4 reached EOL.
Flow works with Sony.
Flow released exploit so that hackers will work on it.
Sony, based on that will make PS5 even harder to hack.

It encourages hackers to disclose their exploits instead of just 0daying them publicly without warning. That means less piracy damage because most people update their ps4s regularly.

Believe it or not, an exploit is still valuable even if 0dayed. People can get good paying jobs if they publish an impressive exploit. With bounty + allowed disclosure, the hacker gets the best of both worlds and they're less likely to sidestep the bounty program.

Zoogie, could you help us make sense of Fire30's tweet? 1) Did Fire30 discover a 7.02 kexploit in 2018? 2) Secondly, why the "RIP" from others? Further, what is the benefiting for waiting until EOL to release an exploit, as noted by others in the tweet?

Thanks!

From what I gather, this exploit was discovered independently by multiple other parties. They were supposedly expressing disappointment that it was bountied since the plan was to release after the EOL of the system. I could be wrong in reading the situation though.

The benefit of EOL is the manufacturer has lost interest in patching exploits for an obsolete platform, giving the exploit release an infinite lifespan.

Sony has continued releasing fimware updates on ps3, psp and vita after they were obsolete
I admit, Sony is a tricky company to predict. They will stop eventually. Even if an update drops after an intended EOL date release, more of a percentage of consoles will be exploitable. I think good timing for an EOL sploit is when no more consoles are being made and no new boxed games are being released (excluding limited run games and Just Dance 2077, lol).

Yes, I was very surprised by this. Why so generous, do you think? What's in it for them?
The sony program for exploits will bring in a handsome amount of money for security flaws. Not to say this is what will be done

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

As of now it will be in the next week or so.I am sad thou as i can only downgrade via safe mode if i cause a boot loop error.

its interesting how out of all the hackerone activity for Sony Playstation that this is the only one that has been disclosed publically. and there are other vulns found with much higher rewards. makes you wonder why those havent been disclosed and thefl0w's was, and what sort of vuln was found that was worth 40k & 25k compared to the 10k of thefl0ws

Mostly for big purchases, I want it in my hands before I pay. Like a tv, I trust picking it up myself, before I'd trust it being sent thru mail/delivery. (Broken screen, etc) But yea if I can order online, then pickup at store is ok, but not all places offer that.

Thing is, if you break it driving back to your house, it's your fault. But if the delivery driver damages it, it's not your fault.
