What is this hate against greanpeace?
unsure.gif

What have they done to you, more than just say what they want think is right?
have they personally put anything against you or hurt you in anyway?

Most people dont listen to them as it is, I guess they thought "why not try to reach people another way!?, VIDEOGAMES!" I like their idea, it'll make it a cheaper to buy game consoles seeing as companies can acctually repair them instead of throw them away. (So ive heard, they do this with DS'es when you send it in for warranty) Plus as much as most people dont believe, if EVERYONE did their part to help the environment (even a little) then it would help.

Its a shame no one listens, IMO...

EDIT: not that they dont listen to EVERYTHING that GP says, even I must admit some things are pretty weirdÂ

I don't think many people are against Greenpeace's idology, but their methods are definitely a cause for critisism. They act like any political/lobby/activist group and only use the facts that benifit them, ignoring the ones that go against their agenda. They tend to see no middle ground and they often don't research their facts properly.

I can attest to that last one. A few years back a group of them protested outside one of the eletricity generators over the use of biofuels mixed in with the coal. The activists were under the impression that the company was cutting down trees and mixing it in, when infact, the company was buying sawmill offcuts, which the sawmills normally just dispose of, and let them decompose naturally (this causes the release of greenhouse gases), producing almost the same result as burning them.

Everyone at the company actually thought it was entertaining and were out their taking pictures of them.

Am I the only one who actually thinks this video is funny? Kratos FTW!

nintendo is the only one who should actually do something actively different
scoring a 0 on all enviroment tests
Nintendo may not be the only one who should do something but I was shocked by their score too. One thing to mention is that Greenpeace's website says:
QUOTE(http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/toxics/electronics/how-the-companies-line-up) said:
Each score is based solely on public information on the companies website.
and a quote from the report tells you:
QUOTE(http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/content/international/press/reports/greener-electronics-nintendo-r.pdf)
No Product Specification or List of Banned/Restricted Substances. No information on how Nintendo communicates with its supply chain. No mechanism for identifying substances for future elimination or examples of these substances.
The report also links to this website: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faq.jsp#environment, which clearly states that Nintendo does something to preserve the environment. Greenpeace just wasn't able to gather information detailed enough for their rating system.

edit: typo

This is another good example of why people are cautious about Greenpeace's claims. Giving a company 0 just because they didn't supply any information is not scientific. It is purely to promote an agenda, and giving them a 0 is using the alarmist method of scaring people. While other conclusions may be speculated, saying that a company is the worst because they wouldn't give you any data (therefore they must be hiding something) is really childish (for lack of a better word at this time of the day

So the whole rating scale is based on what the companies say they're doing? Or based on some abstract "ecology policies", which are really what the company wishes they did, not something they actually do, and how well that policy is "communicated" to their business associates and retailers. Um, WTF?

And companies get bad grades because their policies aren't available to the general public?

Whatever happened to taking water samples downstream from factories? I guess going to China would be too much work
nyanya.gif

You know, I call those "glaring inconsistencies". In normal circumstances, it would discredit the entire research. Not that Greenpeace will be bothered by that, though.

Nintendo will always try to convince you that they're doing more for the environment then they're actually doing.
And the Greenpeace will always try to convince you that they're doing less than they're actually doing..

Why is Kratos representing the PS3?
Because there is no recognizable representation xD

seriously, if those environmentalist groups actually did something helpful, it would be a huge step. The only thing they do is make scary propaganda against non-issues.

Why do they destroy eco-systems by building wind generators... It's not as if they were a true considerable alternative, the supply is too unreliable. And it hurts the birds.

Why do they fight advancements in nuclear power that would reduce waste? Why do they fight the only true alternative for fossil power at all. Why do they use the same argument for underground storage of CO2 that they invalidated against underground storage of nuclear waste?

I support global warming!

BTW, a lot of this "green" movement, and carbon taxes and such are money making schemes. Global warming is happening, but it's probably just a natural cycle. I believe global warming is happening on Mars at the moment as well (no joke).

Birds couldn't care less for windmills, wind turbines don't destroy "eco systems" either. You fell for "Spiegel" and "BILD" Propaganda there. God, I am so glad that Stefan Aust, who was personally responsible for that particularly bad series of articles got fired by the board. Here's an article on how this bullshit managed to get released to the public (and while you're at it, read this one, too - and keep in mind that Wolfgang Clement, one of the politicians who was against renewable energy back then in 2003, works for RWE today).

And for the international audience:

I also think Greenpeace is just one big good-for-nothing corporate PR-machine. But please, despise the medium, not the message.

I support nuclear power(it's the only viable way of producing cheap sustainable energy) but this whole "people are afraid of what they don't understand" argument is merely used to side-step valid arguments, like the problem of storing nuclear waste without contaminating the water table, by portraying all nuclear energy detractors as some sort of ignorant scared hippy mob. That being said, nuclear energy is extremely safe and efficient, people have to start being realistic, alternative energy sources can only go so far.

lukeage brings up valid points. Take for instance; I used to live in Los Gatos, CA. There was/is a Hummer dealership in that city. One night, a group of Greenpeace wacko's went and lit on fire several of the Hummer's burning them thoroughly. They tagged the others in paint painting Greenpeace on them. And, yes, these were active militia style members of Greenpeace not some morons out there doing wanton destruction under their name. The next day channel 2 news interviewed one of the local Greenpeace directors. This guy's reaction to the whole thing was chilling. In not so many words and fewer, he basically did not denounce this deed. But, claimed that radical Greenpeacer's do not reflect the companies belief's. He did not offer to name that the two men who did this would be removed from their orginization nor did he directly comdemn what transpired. Instead, he went off on how bad Hummers are. I was wondering what kind of toxic fumes were released into the enviroment when these things burned. Oh, and this was not an isolated incident. During that same time, throughout neighborhoods in San Jose, individual Hummers were either vandalized and in a couple of instances burned.

They are much like the government in the "scare the hell out of you and damn the facts" tactics. But, with that said I do wonder where the hell does all this crap go that we all throw away. Is it floating on some barge in space ala Futurama

Obvioulsy most of you haven't read about the roll-on solar panels they are coming out with (it won innovationof the year for Popular Science) I think that that takes the cake for best enery source.

I once was watching one episode of "Top Gear" in tv and they said funny statistics about ecologic cars. You know that more toxic gases are made by making electricity (for hybrid cars), than making gasoline.
what
This is is a lie that makes no sense.

QFT.
It's just corporate machines making money off the ignorant masses. Greenpeace is almost as bad as PETA. Just a corrupt organization fronting as a group trying to make a better world for everyone. Eat me Greenpeace!

Global warming is a myth
lecture.gif

The average temperature of the planet 2 years ago was the same as it was like 150 years ago, or something like that - i forget the exact figures.
We have had 2 ice ages on this planet (to our knowledge) - What happened after these ice ages ? The earth warmed up...... ALL BY ITSELF ! No cars, no games consoles, no pollution... just good ol' mama nature.

I'm sick of hearing about this bollocks, and even more sick of the amount of money being poured into projects to "save us" from this potentially non-existant threat.
