Awesome, thanks for all of your guidance! One more quick question, if I follow the guide at switch.homebrew.guide sequentially, should I create my emuMMC before booting CFW? It doesn't specify where Atmosphere will run from when it says to launch into it before the emuMMC setup portion of the guide.
It doesn't make a difference when you make emuMMC with respect to launching CFW for the first time.

Hi guys, I'm planning to hack my unpatched switch on 9.1. I want to use emuMMC/emuNAND for offline dirty stuff and sysNAND for online legit playing. Are there any differences as far as security is concerned between sxOS and Atmosphere emuNAND solutions? Is one of them more ban prone than the other? Are there any other major differences between them or is spending 30 bucks for sxOS quite useless now? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
The only difference is that SX OS can use file-based emuMMC unlike Atmosphere however both can utilize partition-based emuMMC which is considered to be the "safer" option because people are worried about Nintendo scanning their SD cards. However this is far from the truth as not only would be scanning for files be incredibly unreliable but it is also possibly illegal. Neither one is more prone to bans than the other. And SX OS has a few exclusive features left that may or may not be worth the $30 price tag such as .XCI file mounting.

Thank you very much for your kind answer. Is there any other sxOS exclusive feature that comes to your mind or could you please point out a website or anything else that compares cfw features?

The only other exclusive feature left for them is the HDD support. With it, you can launch any .XCI file from an HDD or install any .NSP file from an HDD but not to an HDD. Personally I do not think its worth the price-tag as .NSP files are smaller and launch faster than .XCI files combined with the fact that you will need an SD card anyways to run CFW so an HDD is extra baggage. But if these two features are worth the money then go ahead.

Ok thank you very much again. I still have one more question: is updating sysNAND offline possible without being flagged for ban? I saw there's a homebrew that updates offline, but I didn't understand whether it is safe from a ban-risk point of view. I ask this because if it is not possible, then I'll need to backup my NAND every time a new fw update comes out, since I don't want to avoid burning fuses by booting through RCM every time, even when I don't want to boot to CFW. Moreover, if I brick in some way months after having backed up my NAND and then I restore it, won't Nintendo notice it?

Does anyone know how to install a dlc unlocker for smash bros? Do I have to download a pirated version of smash bros or can I install it on to my bought version?

Using homebrew requires CFW so it is not safe from a ban much like any other piece of homebrew. The only other ways to update the firmware offline is either with a cartridge or a second console running not only a higher firmware but a higher version of a game. This means its still possible to restore a backup of a lower firmware and update it to the firmware it was on before the brick so you do not need to make a new dump every time a firmware update is released.

Pirated content is almost no different than legal content. The only difference is that pirated content would require CFW to launch but otherwise, the content itself doesn't care if its pirated or not.

So I got this strange problem.

I switched over from reinx to atmosphere. All went well.
After that updated from 8.0.1 to 9.1.0.

Now everytime I boot my switch with hekate and select payload it boots up perfectly fine.
BUT it says cannot read gamecard anymore.

How can I fix it so it still reads game cards?

I use it to save space by having mario kart 8 in there.

This used to work fine, but seems to e broken now.

Set "autonogc=0" in your hekate_ipl.ini file in the boot loader folder or disable it in the hekate GUI. Keep in mind: This will update your game card reader and you can't use it on firmware lower than 9.0.0 anymore.

Ok thanks.

So now Itm trying to update smash bros to 7.0.0 on atmposher 9.1.0 using latest goldleaf it gives me an error about it being incompatible or missing sig patches.

I'm not missing sig patches so what gives?

You need different ones. The sigpatches I mentioned above are for hekate and Kosmos. The sigpatches you mentioned are needed if you boot with fusee primary.

I start by injecting hekate after that it gives me a menu. In that menu I select payload and select fusee_gelee or something like it.
Am I doing it wrong then???

Sry I'm a noob to this menu and stuff since I come from reinx.

EDIT: and why do the other games still work if I'm using the wrong patches???

You can directly boot with hekate to atmosphere. You just need to create some boot entries in your hekate config file or download the config file from Kosmos.

Ok but that still does not explain the sigpatches.

Why does SD_setup and then sweet patches for atmosphere have different file structure.
And the one you sent are another different batch???

What is this confusing mess? And if I need to use your linked ones why is that? Because my other games work fine? Doesn't that mean my patches work fine???

You only need the sigpatches mentioned by me if you boot with hekate. Since you boot with fusee primary, you need the ones from the thread here. But really, your way how you boot your system is a bit weird. Either directly inject fusee primary payload or boot with hekate. But what you are currently doing is to chain load fusee primary with hekate.

So I should use fusee_atmosphere.bin to boot?

Or

Use hekate_ctcaer_5.1.1.bin, but in the menu select what then?

Anyway in neither of those cases it solves my goldlead issue.
