You, sir, clearly have never played any of the original sim cities (sim city or sim city 2000).
Let me quasi-illustrate how some of my internal thought processes went:
Me: okay...let's see how my little people are doing (note: this was before RCT coined the word 'peeps')
Populace: taxes are too high!
Me: sure thing...let's lower these
Me: *fiddles*
Me: hmm...if I lower taxes on average, I'll end up losing money. Better cut back on...
Advisor: YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON FUNDING! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!
Me: whoa...what's that guy's problem? *lowers road funding and taxes*
Me: there...I'll barely make money, but as long as they're happy...
Populace: crime is too high!
Me: What is this? Are all my inhabitants thrown out of the neighboring town for complaining or something? I just lowered...
Populace: what's with this road? This city sucks!
Me: HEY!
Me: ...okay...time to send in my little friend:
Monster:
*breaks down half the city*
Me:
*dispatches police and fire brigade to the other end of town*
Me: MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Populace: I hate it here!
Me: true...but since there's no way to satisfy YOU, I better satisfy myself.
