Ubisoft delays Watch_Dogs Legion, other major titles

legion.0.jpg

The Last of Us Part 2 isn't the only game facing a delay today, as Ubisoft has pushed back the release date of a number of its major upcoming titles. Three games have been delayed, including Watch_Dogs Legion, Rainbox Six Quarantine, and Gods & Monsters, all of which were announced at this year's E3. Each of the aforementioned games was originally slated for an early 2020 launch, and now will be releasing in the 2020-2021 fiscal year. These delays are due to the combined effects of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Breakpoint being considered a critical failure, along with the much-enjoyed, though lower-than-projected sales of Tom Clancy's The Division 2. Yves Guillemot, the CEO of the company, stated that Ghost Recon Breakpoint lacked the development time to allow for a title that could have enough innovation or qualities that make for a good game, saying that while their upcoming games already have "high potential", Ubisoft wants to ensure that these titles will offer the best experience possible for players.

While each of these games already has a strong identity and high potential, we want our teams to have more development time to ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players. This decision will have a very significant impact on our financial results for this fiscal year and goes against our recent successes in building a more stable development model. However, it is in line with our strategy to maximize the future value of our brands for the long-term benefit of our employees, players and shareholders.

Ubisoft should ask some indie docs to write a game making tutorial for them.

At they very least they should improve on their copy paste approach accross ALL games they make.

Generic , repetitive trash.

They don't have the competence to makes good games.
You mean repetitive trash like yoyoyo - seriously go Google ubisoft games 2019 and alone youl find least 5 games worthy of anyone's time

It happens so often now I wonder if its just marketing at this point. I mean this way you get your game for zero cost another time into the newscycle...
It was positive to hear developers not to rush and all that, but as for now: Get your project planning done right, foolish publishers. Seriously at this point it looks like somekimńd of systematic problem or really just cheap marketing.

Seriously, I'm actually glad about this one. Assuming everyone else makes their deadlines, Q1 2020 has more RPGs and big open world games coming out that I actually want than just about any time that I can remember recently. Tokyo Mirage Session Encore, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk 2077. I just found out Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has been pushed back. I'm not too upset about that one, either.

I am not a big fan of Ubisoft anymore. They were one of my favorite developers during the PSX Era (I still play Rayman 1 from time to time) but like others said: EVERY game from them seems to be open world.

Open world in itself can be fine. But I prefere games that are more linear (not much exploration / freedome) but have a very good story in return.
There are only a few "good" open World games that managed to have a interesting story that I wanted to follow all the way to the end - GTA comes to mind.
But in most open world games - Fallout or the newer AC games for example - I loose interest in the story after a few hours of gameplay and never finish them.

Open World racing games are especially bad. What happened to good designed arcade racers with interesting track designs that support the arcade style gameplay?
One of the reasons why I think that Asphalt 9 for Switch is a very good game, while NFS has lost all of it's appeal.
Even Burnout went that route with Burnout Paradise...

Re: Division 2 not meeting expectations then I have to ask if these expectations were ridiculous. Too many times this last few years have we heard that something did not sell enough and it sold millions, about in line with any other game on a given platform and genre. In this case https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/18/division-2-best-selling-game-2019-claims-ubisoft-10412521/ -- their financials statements (so presumably reliable -- tax man and share holders do not like it when you lie in those) saying division 2 was the best selling title of the year.

Or do game companies expect mega hit after mega hit (or at least all the "microtransactions" to make up for it)? I know they all hope for it but planning for it is a different matter.

I am slightly curious about the effects of epic game store though. Sadly I doubt we will be getting numbers there any soon and I don't know how I might get close to inferring things.

yea they sell millions and millions even though their products are getting worse and worse and all the while being released unfinished etc etc. and they want more money... anyone that understands the original ps4 and xb1 power level would have already known that Watchdogs 3 would have a hard time running seeing that wd2 didnt run so great on everything as well.
