From what I've read it is ok to update to the latest firmware 8.1.0 if you have an unpatched switch and everything will still work?

Is there a way to backup my saves tho? No way I want to to do Cuphead again! Lol

Best way to update is to restore the backup of my ofw and do an official update. Make a new ofw backup again, then hack it back to cfw, correct?

1) Yes, 8.1.0 is supported by Atmosphere and SX OS.
2) Checkpoint.
3) No, use ChoiDujourNX instead.

ChoiDujourNX is necessary if I ever want to downgrade again.. but if everything works with 8.1.0 why worry about downgrading?

I figured if I update the ofw to the lastest now since it's supported by everything that would be better when I want to switch over to ofw to play online. Still not a good idea?

Yes, but if you don't care about downgrading you can disable autoRCM during the installation process. Why you should update with ChoiDujourNX:
  • Update offline
  • Much easier than restore backup, update, restore again...
  • Prevent fuses from burning

If you don't care about future exploits (i.e. You're happy using the RCM exploit forever), then you don't need to worry about downgrading.

Ok one more noob question: so I just bought a 128gb sd card to replace my 32gb sd card. the 32gb was formatted in FAT and the 128gb is formatted in exFAT... I copied the entire filebase of 32gb to the 218gb card and can't get it to boot. What am I doing wrong?

hello everyone. I modded my switch using the SX Pro kit (i know that is not so popular around here) and Everything goes very well, but i got an annoying problem.

Before all procedure, my Switch was on OFW 6.0.1 and keep warning me to update with that popup, and i mod the switch with this OFW, ignoring that popup.

After all procedure (Nand backup, activate SXos (2.5.3), create the emunand [hidden], tried some backups, homebrews, etc) i get worried that somebody press the UPDATE button on the popup.

looking for a solution, i found that, if i enter on recover mode (vol up + down + power) and after load the screen turnoff, this popup should be vanished. AND WORKED, but only when i boot on OFW. Booting on CFW (or SXOs) that F**k popup keep showing itself.

There is anyway that i can remove it for good, from the CFW too?

Sorry if i dont explain myself in a good way, im really a noob on all this (And sorry for the poor english too).

Thanks for your time.
Format your SD card to FAT32. The update prompt is for the exFAT update not a system update however accepting the exFAT update prompt will update your system firmware.

Long time stalker over the years. Finally have plans to get some CFW happening on a few diff systems.
Looking for some advice as to which way forward for my situation on the switch side of it.

I have a day one XAW70001 currently on 5.1.0 and was planning to get a new console for normal/online play and use the day one for CFW
Can't transfer user saves as is without updating system first.
Have a couple of other consoles for collectors purposes.
What do people suggest as the best way moving forward.

1. Update as is now to safely transfer user data to new Switch.
2. Use CFW to transfer user data if this is even possible (as long as this wouldn't affect the new Switch at all RE online play, Nintendo account etc)
3. Forget about the user saves altogether and for the main ones (Zelda, Odyssey and Skyrim) either enjoy replaying them on the new console or keep playing them on the CFW version being that they are not online games anyway.
4. Last option would be to check the firmware versions on some of my other "Collectors" switches. I have a Fortnite bundle one that is in the possibly patched @ XAW70019 and also an Odyssey one which I am sure would be in the not patched. Is there any advantage to having lower firmwares at this stage? I have noticed that people are updating the system to play newer games anyway. Is there any difference in updating the FW via the standard method compared to updating it via CFW other than fuse counts and being able to roll back firmware?

Thanks
If your console is not patched and you don't mind having to use a jig & USB cable to boot CFW on it for a long time, you can just update while burning fuses then transfer your save data. If you want to hold onto the possibility of utilizing a better future exploit such as untethered coldboot, then you can update your firmware of your unpatched unit without burning fuses with the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. Updating without burning fuses ensures you can downgrade to your original firmware and lower firmware versions have a higher chance of an exploit being released than a lower firmware version.

I got a 1.0 switch. Can I do cold boot with it? sorry, just a lot of info on this console and not sure where to start.

figure i would ask here before i create a thread..
i was running reinx on 8.1.0 or 8.0 forgot, sorry. and i used sleep mode alot as i have to rcm thru pc. i went to work and i let my daughter and niece play it, i only use it with the dock and thru tv. so family can play. when i came home they said it asked to update. now im not sure if it was a software update or a tittle update. i got a couple of brand new games for the kids. but they said it updated and restarted now i have a black screen with no boot. i going to say a soft brick? now being in the dock it stays charged so i dont think its a dead battery. anyways of getting back? i have it "charging" from a wall charger as we speak. i do have a nand backup it was the first thing i did.
thanX in advance
Does it enter RCM?

Hey there!
Im new to the Switch scene and I bought a RCMloader One to inject the payloads.
Unfortunately I can't launch ReiNX. After looking at the ReiNX boot screen, I get a black screen and nothing happens.

My Switch:
Firmware 7.0.1
microSD card (tested with Fat32 and exFAT)
Ive attached my SD file structure
Im using the build in ReiNX payload of the RCMloader One (I can't tell which version it is)
Update the payload on your RCMloader one with the one from the latest release of the ReiNX Github page.

I'm on 8.1 OFW and recently setup an emummc on 8.1 and my switch was never hacked before. Based on your answer is that mean I might be at risk of being banned? Why? is there a reason that the OFW and CFW must not be on same version? Would you elaborate on that please
You said you were going to modify one of your save files then upload that save file to Nintendo's Cloud Service. That is pretty much telling Nintendo directly that you have a hacked console.

The 128 GB SD card is formatted as exFAT. Reformat it to FAT32.

No option to format car as FAT32. only Exfat and NTFS

Is there any risk of ban to booting the ofw in sysnand through hekate 5.0 and having RCM on?
Or should I disable it and boot ofw only through the official bootloader?

There's very little risk of a ban from booting OFW through Hekate. You are probably safe. AutoRCM is also likely to be safe.
Thanks for your response, do you advise removing the sd card for booting OFW or do you think it doesn’t do any difference?

Hi guys, there is a way to "clean" the nand of the switch? (or an old nand backup). I want to try some official games online because Atmosphere emuMMC is here but my nand is "dirty" and I know it is a bad idea use OFW in my case. There is a solution?

My clean NAND backup is on 3.0.1, but my gamecart slot is updated. I restored the NAND to verify this (it crashes when a cart is inserted). Is there a way for me to update firmware to 4.0.1 so that I'm back to a full-functional state, but do the update in a "clean" way?

I don't know of any payload that could update firmware, only something like choidujournx - but that would require running CFW. Do I have any path forward?
