Any thoughts on these 2 parts or just use the SD adapter. Let's start a nice discussion on these parts. Break it down Barney style for the noobs. Only so much you can get from google haven't found a good comparison on this topic.
No such thing called literally "SD adapter" for the Vita, though the sd2vita (which fits in the game slot) is without a doubt a passive adapter
The psv2sd is instead an active SD-to-USB drive that fits into the miniPCIexpress slot (which only 3G consoles have, else it can be fitted... with some effort), leaving your gamecard slot free for running and legally dumping your originals (for creating backups, you don't need one - just disable your sd2vita and copy directly to a computer via cable - but if you plan on expanding your collection it may be nice to not have to mess with plugins every time)
Both need custom drivers (in the form of kernel plugins) and so are ideally used on a console with Enso (though you can mostly get away with using a temporary CFW like Henkaku or h-encore,)
Any combination of either, plus the official memory card, and the internal ux0 if any - can be used "simultaneously" but only one will be ux0, the main storage for Vita apps - in my opinion it's not worth the complication, just get one and forget about all other storage options

ok you can only have a PSVSD on an OLED 3g Vita so if you don't have one of those Vita that's out the question
I have a 400gig PSVSD as my main storage (vita games) with a 256gig SD2vita for all my PS1/PSP games and old roms - I could add a 64gig Sony memory card in there but that's used for my non hacked PS Vita
most people can easily make do with just a 256gig SD2Vita, but if you are anal like me and like every game you have available one one device PSVSD with SD2Vita is the best choice

The only two SD adapters in existence so far for the Vita (Fat and Slim models), are the ones you've already commented about.

I have a PSTV and used a USB stick for a long time. Ended up switching to a SD2Vita as I've had a lot of trouble with various USB devices. :/ Long term, it's nice if I ever end up getting a Vita.
I've mostly used version 5 (white with black text) as below, but version 3 above should be fine aswell.

get an sd2vita and something in the ballpark of 200gb sd card if you don't care about actual game carts or the psvsd if you also want to collect. don't burden yourself with two sd adapters.
only get an original sony sd (any size will do fine) as a fallback. not really needed if you have a slim though.

sd2vita is a adapter for micro-sd cards, it has the physical shape of a vita gamecard. insert the micro-sd into the sd2vita and insert the sd2vita into the pstv gamecard slot.
to make it actually work, a kernel plugin has to be installed on the pstv, this plugin is called storagemgr.skprx and is available on github https://github.com/CelesteBlue-dev/PSVita-StorageMgr
setup of sd card was easy, basically flash zzBlank.img and transfer ux0: to the sd card.
setup of the plugin was also easy, basically add 1 line to ur0:tai/config.txt and edit storage_config.txt
