Thank you for the great detailed information. So if I understand well... If I would backup a NAND from an older OFW to the system.. and the fuse check would be different because I would have burnt too many by updating to the latest OFX. the system would "panic" ending up with a black screen. The only way to start the switch again would be by using the jig and the SX dongle?
Correct.

Hello all,

I see so many game updates passing by :) Now I was wondering.. should you only keep the latest update file in your directory or do you need to have each version of the update file. Maybe the last one also includes the previous updates in them.
I guess for the DLC files, you need each one of them.
Thx in advance for your help
The latest update contains all of the data from previous updates.

If you can inject payload, then your switch is not patched. You’re just doing something wrong.

Well would you be able to let me know where I am going wrong then because ive tried many different things and cannont tell where? Tegra states that the payload has been injected successfully but the switch screen stays black at that point when a menu is supposed to show up?

so when i get my console tomorrow im going to get the RCMloader (https://gbatemp.net/threads/xkits-new-rcmloader-dongle-and-jig.525374/) well one that looks like it from amazon aroun 15 USD. that is basically the jig too, and if i am correct this will plug the pins and auto send a payload to run the CFW correct? is that about it or am i missing something? and once the console has loaded CFW as long as i dont cold boot or battery dies i will be good, and if i shut console off i just have to do the volume+power button to enter rcm mode.
it was meentioned that i would freak out if the battery died while running CFW, is there a reason?
and last but not least, is there a way i can run of a usb device or is it strictly microSD? i have a sandisk ultra plus 64gb XC that would be ok correct?
thanX in advance

You just mentioned that you received an error. But if you can't even inject a payload, your switch is patched. Your serial number also falls in "possibly patched".

I believe I need to update my EmuNAND, so I'm running my thought process here, to make sure I'm right before proceeding and to make sure I do this right.

  • I picked up a Switch 2 weeks ago, it is unpatched running FW: 4.1
  • I also bought a SX Pro used it and it works well
  • I made a backup of my SYSNAND immediately, moved it off the SD and have it saved in two places.
  • I then created EmuNAND after that.
However, I have a few games that do not work, plus SX Installer gives me errors. Some searching on these forms tell me my OFW is out of date and SX Installer doesn’t support such a low firmware.

From what I can read, I need to update my EmuNAND, but NOT my SysNAND. I should keep SysNAND stock. So here are my questions

  • Should I update straight to 8.0.1 from 4.1 or should I pick an older firmware such as 7.0?
  • I’m also assuming I can go straight from 4.1 to 8.0.1 without doing intermediate updates (Confirmed this just now by reading this thread!)
  • I'm currently using SX OS 2.6.2 (beta), I'm assuming I should update to 2.7.1 (beta) before I proceed?
  • I assume I just use the newest version of ChoidujouNX?
  • Should I enable AutoRCM before I update?
  • Before I update, I just need to make sure I am un EmuNAND is enabled
  • I'm currently using FAT32, I'd prefer to stick with FAT32 and not convert to exFAT. I’m assuming that is possible
  • When the update is done, I'm assuming just keep my Pro dongle attached, but do I need to press Vol + to auto enter RCM?
I’m just worried about burning a fuse, then getting stuck since I’m only 4.1

*Update*
Solved
  • I did a full backup of my SD Card (because why not).
  • I enabled AutoRCM (even tho ChoidujourNX does that); but it made me feel better.
  • I used ChoidujourNX & FW 8.0.1; the update works flawlessly. I set it to exFAT, but I am keeping my card as FAT32.
  • Told it to reboot, everything worked great.
  • It did ask me to update my controllers, I searched the forums. Since the controller update is contained in the firmware and doesn't need internet, I proceeded.

I checked my OFW+SysNAND, I'm still on 4.1, but my CFW+EmuNAND is on 8.0.1

The issue with SX Installer is gone, the games I had issues is gone as well.

Thank you!

The RCM loader dongle come with the jig, the dongle would be sending the payload as long it has the correct payload you need is on the dongle. As long the unit isn't powered off the CFW is good to go, think of somewhat of a tethered jailbreak, you lose it when it completely powered off. If you want to use a USB thumb drive or HDD you would need to get SX OS, for now only SX OS support XCI loading and External Storage.

Just that when the unit ran out of battery and it was on autoRCM, people sometimes think their unit is dead and start freaking out, just that you have to let it charge before you can power it on again if it is on autoRCM.

Thank you al

For game install try using Goldleaf 0.5 over usb install instead of the build in installer, it is fine to update your emunand to the latest firmware as it has support, leave your sysnand alone if you want to, if you burn your fuse then your original NAND backup is no good, 2.71 Beta is all good to use. Leave autoRCM mode on as it would always boot into Emunand if you config is correct and dongle is plugged in.

As for updating use the latest choidujourNX, and find the latest firmware files out there, and update via that, pick the exFAT option when updating but keep your card as FAT32, since it is on autoRCM you just need the dongle not the dongle+jig.

So I figured I'd install CFW on my bro-in-law, and my own Switch.
Now I have read many tutorials to inform myself on this (I have jailbroken/rooted many devices in the past but no Switch)
My question is, is it better to go the route of buying a whole kit like "ETbotu for NS Switch RCM Loader NS Switch Dongle NS SX OS RCM NS Shorter Connector + Injector JIG Kits" (I'd link it or post a screenshot but the forum rules forbid it) or just use my PC, cables and jig and just do it all myself?

What are the pros/cons of each different method?

That probably depends on two things:
1) How much money you'd be willing to spend: if for instance you already have the appropriate cable and something to jam into your Switch, you don't need to buy anything extra. A single paper clip and a cable will run you 5-10 USD tops, which is slightly less than the product in question.
2) How you plan to enter RCM periodically. If you install AutoRCM, the pin shorter will become redundant. However, if you don't, and instead use your own method of entering RCM (such as by jamming a paper clip inside), you'll probably be trying your patience as you fail over and over again to enter RCM. Jigs are more reliable in the short term, but they can wear out over time and have a chance to fail (which may also make the product feel cheap as it is not guaranteed).

So, I got my Switch yesterday and mine happens to be the unpatched one.
I want to grab CFW for mainly RetroArch. I read about the CFWs and I think I'm going to go for Atmosphere.
Thus my questions.

1. I read about the potential bans upon modding. Is it only for using pirated games or just CFW as a whole?

2. What is this June 15th thing all about?

See this thread. Any unauthorized modification you make Nintendo aware of puts you at risk of a ban.

It was the original posited 2018 release date for the Atmosphere CFW by SciresM. Long story short, Atmosphere was not released on that day or for a while, but Scires took it in stride, and now the joke is that every Atmosphere-related release is on "June 15".

Ah I see. One more question.
I put a payload (fusee-test.bin) earlier to my Switch to test if it was patched. Does doing this modify my Switch?

Anybody have goldtree 0.5 for me to download? All the latest are only goldtree 0.4 which aren't compatible with goldleaf 0.4 which means I have to take out my micro SD card and reinject just to add new programs...

I see sept folder in atmosphere and ReiNX have the same files name but with different file size! if I'm going to use them both.. which one I keep? same for atmosphere vs Kosmos even though both at 0.8.9 I see payload.bin in the sept different size.. or reboot_payload.bin too
some files are in atmosphere are not found in Kosmos like switch/ reboot_to_payload.nro , fatal_errors folder.. why is that? is it going to be problem if I replace these from atmosphere to Kosmos or opposite?

for Lockpick_RCM If the console has Firmware 7.x, the /sept/ folder from Atmosphère or Kosmos release zip containing both sept-primary.bin and sept-secondary.enc must be present on SD or else only keyblob master key derivation is possible (ie. up to master_key_05 only

I'm on 4.1.0 so I don't need these folders..can anyone double confirm it.. thanks
