Did you overclock the Switch? If you did I'm not really sure of why its crashing other than that.

When you mentioned it before, I was overclocked to the Maximum option (though it worked on the RetroArch install I had before). Now it’s at Stock and still doesn’t load and crashes. Not really sure what’s the problem.

I did all the steps I mentioned previously.

Yes that's your problem. You need Fat32. It's a known fact that exfat cause issues with Retroarch. It could even corrupt your entire sd card. There's no reason to be on exFat anymore you can install Switch games with your usb type c cord hooked up to your computer so the 4 gb limit doesn't matter.

You can even just copy your entire sd card to your computer, format the sd card to Fat32 then copy everything back and they'll continue to work. Otherwise you're just going to continue to have problems.

I’m aware that people have mentioned issues with exFAT in the past, but those issues are along the lines of data corruption. I wasn’t aware that there was any issues running Homebrew since I had all the cores working before reading the post and having to reinstall RetroArch due to a new update with JIT patches.

Well there's nothing left to troubleshoot in my opinion you can do what you want but you're doing it wrong so there's no reason to try to figure out what's wrong when it's already known you're doing it the wrong way. If you want to be hardheaded about it that's on you. There's an easy way to do it and a hard way you're choosing the hard way so you're on your own.

I didn’t mean to come across aggressive or adamant about my stance, I just wanted to see if there was any possibilities of there being other issues I could check as this wasn’t an issue before.

You're doing exactly the same thing I'm doing on the same version of SX OS and mine works and yours doesn't. The only difference is I'm on Fat32 you're on Exfat.

You guys are making your lives harder for no reason. Fat32 is great, come on over the water's fine. There's nothing to be scared of.

Im not sure you get full RAM access while presing R and launching the homebrew via Gallery. You need to do it with an installed game or using the retroarch NSP with the latest SX build.

That's a good catch he did say he held R on gallery I'm positive no one told him to do that you have to hold it on a game on the Switch menu. I gave those instructions to someone before him on the first page.

I still would not use ExFat with Retroach because you're going to end up with your whole sd card corrupted doing so. But some people don't listen.

What I experienced with emunand is: launching retroarch through R to access the homebrew launcher will result in a crash with the n64 core from m4xw.
However if I use the "Homebrew Menu Launcher Legal Nsp", I can then launch retroarch and the n64 core correctly.

I have been using ExFat since i got my Switch (almost 2 years ago) and never had a problem. With that said, its known that ExFat has some problems, but not with me (and others). I wouldnt say that all the problems we get would be fixed by using Fat32, so lets make sure to try all the other methods before that.

"launching retroarch through R to access the homebrew launcher", with what are you launching it? With any installed NSP like a game or even the homebrew/retroarch nsp or with the gallery icon + R. The latter would not give you RAM access so it would crash.

I think it's wise to advise people not to use a format that is known with Retroarch to cause your entire sd card to corrupt. It may not have happened to you but still could.

There is not even one benefit to using ExFat over Fat32 so I will continue to advise people to use the correct format.

After a lengthy copy over to another SD card, some XCI files I use are now too big for FAT32, but the overall conclusion to this, it's still not working. It's crashed again  I'm not sure what else needs to be done.

The steps I took were to format the SD card to FAT32 -> Copy the contents of the exFAT card to the new one -> Delete old RetroArch Folder & Reinstall RetroArch + Separate N64 Core -> Run SXOS -> Hold R on Album -> Run RetroArch -> Load Content -> Selected ROM & Core -> Failed to Load Content & Crash

You're still doing it wrong. You don't hold R on album. You hold R on a nsp Switch game on the Switch menu. Instead of the game starting it'll go to album.

You should use Aluminum Foil to install your Switch games under Fat32. For XCI files aren't those only playable on external hard drive? You can leave the external hard drive Exfat but sd card Fat32.
