To my understanding, if you have a CFW enabled PS3, you can just swap the HDD with a new one, will be prompted to reinstall firwmare, I install a USB stick with the CFW I have currently, and I'm good to go.

Now I have some PSN games installed, and more importantly some save files for the PSN games I have installed. Can I bring the PSN games with me or do I need to reinstall the package? And if so, at the least I won't have any problems bringing over my saves will I? Can I just back up my user profiles and restore them?

I just replaced mine yesterday on official firmware 4.21 or something like that. Just take out the old one. put the new one in and the PS3 will ask to format it and that's it.

I went from 40GB to 500GB :)

Now if you want to save the data on the current HDD you have to backup and restore your stuff to an external USB drive, this can take a long time if you have a lot of data. But the default OFW has a backup/restore tool built in as well. Should be exactly the same on CFW
