Nintendo Switch Online NES games for April 2019 revealed

It's the beginning of a new month, which means that it's time for Nintendo to reveal the newest additions to their Nintendo Switch Online NES lineup. On April 10th, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, and Star Soldier will all become playable for any subscribers to the service.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels – Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros.® 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated gameplay creates an entirely new challenge. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress).

Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream – As young boxer Little Mac, players have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to battle the big guys of the World Video Boxing Association circuit. Take them on one by one, starting with skinny Glass Joe. Battle up through King Hippo and all the way to the WVBA Champion himself. Players use their best jabs, hooks and power uppercuts to knock out opponents, but must also dodge jaw-breaking blows by paying attention to subtle changes in their foe’s body position.

Star Soldier – The standard for vertically scrolling shooters, Star Soldier is the original game that spawned all of the titles in the long-running Soldierseries. Go inside a floating space station inhabited by a giant computer known as Starbrain. Your mission: to stop Starbrain’s galactic invasion by piloting Caesar, a new compact space fighter, through 16 deadly stages.

Yeah, I feel ya, I wouldn't have gotten NSO if it wasn't free for the next three months

Yep they should do a live direct picking the games with a random generator for all Nintendo consoles I'll pay for the lucky dip option:lol:

I mean, literally anything would be better than NES games at this point.

i mean, if you liked paying 5 bucks a pop for these games...
Being able to pick and choose what games to buy is sure as hell better than being force-fed set games that only trickle out three bloody games per month.

Ooh three NES games, how exciting!

Punch out!! = Not the same without Mike Tyson. :(
Star Solder = Another shooting game "SUPPLIED" buy Konami (No it wasn't made by them but they currently own rights to) and they already have Twinbee and Gradius, what's next? Life Force?
Super mario, lost levels =

Yeah I put a grumpy face only because you keep subjecting people to the nes version of these mario games instead of the better SNES Mario Allstars version of them. Unless you was planning to put it on a retail game cart and sell to us again like you did with the nintendo wii version, because that was a great idea to waste disc capable of holding 5GB of data for a snes rom instead of just being a download. :creep:

Censorship will hit hard with these new releases, and also we won't be seeing some games released again, like Mike Tyson's Punch Out as you mention.

Add to that the fact that we are also shit out of luck for romhacks and unofficial translations, and not even mention games that were never released outside Japan.

I sometimes wonder if the people that do go for this kind of service are really that short sighted or not aware of the real problem here.

I don't know. Honestly, I'm not against the games on nes, it's more of the incriminating factors escalating towards it. I don't know if people agree with me or not, but it's just opinions anyway, I don't expect such things, just share thoughts.

I thought it would have been a better idea to add all 30 games that the nes classic had when it was being sold. at day one of the announcement. I don't understand much of why you wouldn't prioritize that to this new situation you presented us with. Instead you start the nes classic online with a bunch of launch title sports games older than super mario bros. Then suddenly start adding the expected ones later, even worst because while each month does get new games, sometimes it's 3 and sometimes it's 2 and includes "SP" versions of existing ones.

In reality, I can see some games being omitted like Mega man 2, Castlevania & Contra because if I want to play Mega man 2, just buy the legacy collection which is on the switch. It probably wouldn't make sense for capcom to license that which may conflict sales of an existing product. This also maybe why nintendo doesn't call this new service virtual console anymore and shift focus to online multiplayer. Because all of their licensors decide to make their own collection compilation of games, all they can focus on is the ones not represented like Ghost and goblins, double dragon and Gradius. Even knowing this, where was the excuse for the other dozen of NINTENDO OWNED GAMES!? Super mario bros 1 & 3 was day one, but the second game was months later, so was star tropics, metroid, kid icarus, and now punch out?

I won't lie, I did enjoy playing some of these games, I played some I never heard of and longer than I expected honestly which is a surprise, but maybe they was better off doing another nes remix with other licensed games. That would have been a good idea, Nes classic with mega man, castlevania, double dragon, etc. I doubt anyone even plays online with these games. :ninja:
