There's a lot of things it "could be" .. Which is part of the problem. Is it an issue with a system module? Or an in game issue? Who knows?

if it was something wrong with the game, fixing the firmware would do nothing to help. that's the implication.

I haven't modded my switch in fact, I haven't looked into it. however, there's some weird shit going on with saves disappearing and reappearing via cloud. I'm about to go the dark side if this shit doesn't stop.

they should've made it possible to ftp saves between the system and a computer like how you can communicate to the micro sd card with the new 3ds through the computer.

The bug was likely some sort of driver-side issue that emerged in 7.0.0, patching the game wouldn’t do anything unless Nintendo wants to use a workaround or something else that would likely cost (relatively) way more time and money than a simple OS hotfix. Plus there’s also the chance that bug could have been capable of affecting other Switch games as well.
