Hey so I've been using a 2.5in drive in a powered 3.5 enclosure with my wii-u. However Ive been looking for a wii-powered 2.5in external solution for some time now. I tried many cables and enclosures and none seemed to work until I got a usb 3.0 y cable and 3.0 2.5in enclosure. I put the same 2.5in drive in the new 2.5in enclosure and the wii-u wont load the content but it will give me the option to format USB device in the settings.

Is this normal? Why is it asking me to format when the drive was already wii-u formatted? Does the enclosure matter? If I have to reformat, is there an easy way to transfer all my content off and back on the formatted drive?

Thanks.

Does the enclosure matter?

People have said that changing the enclosure can result in better....results.

You can transfer & copy saves to a flash drive or the internal.

I can't recall 100%, but when you have save data from a game you deleted, when you re-install the game, make sure there is no save data at all. Once you install the game, you make a save, then replace that new save with the old save file.

Are you saying the content should load depending on the enclosure?

I know I can xfer the saves. I dont want to load 250gb of content via SD card xfers again.

I'm hungover--the point of telling you about saves was because if you had to ask about transfers, maybe you never experienced playing something like XCX, frying a flash/SD/whatever, having to re-install XCX, finding out your old save won't work, yada yada etc,.

Ernywho, if everything comes to WCS and you have to transfer stuff, I'm trying to save you the install, uninstall, re-install, re-uninstall , re-re-install, ect,.

The enclosure is a thing that a lot of people have had problems with:
