I want to run a homebrew app and go completely back to normal afterwards while keeping my saves, and leaving minimal (if any) traces of me running homebrew. I know their is always chances of a ban happening but I want them to be minimal (if existent). Anything I can do?

I am running 5.1.0 version and my switch is exploitable with fusee-glee (sorry if I misspelled it)

Also do games get corrupt if I run fusee-glee and reboot without homebrew? Does anything stay If I do this?

The number of people that reported getting banned just by running homebrew (and not installing nsps etc) is very low. Especially now since atmosphere actively has taken measures against the telemetry by nintendo. But don't install any NSPs! You can "inject" the hblauncher temporarily into an installed app with atmosphere tho which gives you more RAM.
I'd say that you probably are safe if you use atmosphere, but you can always restart after having used homebrew. Saves are shared between both modes since both run on the original NAND.

If it's emulation you want, you should check out Lakka (there is also a thread here on this forum). It is a Linux based OS and an implementation of RetroArch. It runs from RAM (i.e. it is not installed on your switch), it runs before Horizon OS is booted, and is therefore completely untraceable by Nintendo. It has some issues though, the biggest one being that sound doesn't work yet

Turn Airplanemode on, or block your switchs mac adress in your router, make a nand backup, boot into custom firmware and use the homebrew apps of your choice. Never boot into original firmware! (Activate AutoRCM to avoid that) and never connect your switch to the internet.

Once you are done with homebrew, install your nand backup and your switch should be the exact same as before you started using homebrew.

As far as i know, that should be pretty safe. If someone disagrees please explain.

Let's be real here; this is a question of "can I use homebrew to cheat/edit my saves and then go online later" and the answer is probably not.

If I use fusee-glee and atmosphere then reboot, it should work as intended with limited ban possibility? If not, can you take me in the right direction? Thanks

I think the answer depends on what you're trying to do.

Are you trying to run emulators? Because you can run Lakka with little (if any) ban risk.

Trying to backup your saves? Rather than using Checkpoint, use HacDiskMount.

Trying to edit your saves? You'll probably get banned.

If you can avoid actually booting into CFW, that's your best bet for not getting banned. Or, you can go offline, make a clean "nand" backup, do whatever you want with homebrew, and then restore the backup, but of course this will revert any changes that were made to your saves while running homebrew.

If I run atmosphere with fusee-glee rcm exploit, does anything stay after reboot? Could I do this and then reboot without much worries?

Simply put, we don't know. Probably not, very few people have been banned simply from running homebrew, but it happens enough.

But my question remains, what's your intent? Because if you're trying to edit your save files, in all likelihood you'll probably be banned.

And nobody here can 100% guarantee that you won't get banned, regardless of what you do. But I've managed to steer clear of bans by making "clean" NAND backups, and restoring them before going back online. And I've been using homebrew since fusee was originally released.

I think restoring clean backup nand erases saves and everything. If I want to backup and restore a save, how can I do it in the most safe way? Do I use HacDiskMount (ccfman2004s question comes to mind)? And thanks again.

Where are saves located when using HacDiskMount. I couldn't figure it out.
I haven't tried doing it myself, but apparently it's possible.

People have extracted saves fine, but I don't personally know of any way of injecting a save without using Checkpoint or a different homebrew though.

Right, that would include saves. So it's all but obvious that you're planning on editing a save file, or using cheats. There is no guaranteed way of doing this without getting banned.

If you're only using Atmosphere once, and you're not installing any NSPs, and you delete your WiFi settings before running Atmosphere so you don't go online while running it, your chances of getting banned are pretty slim. Not nil, but slim.

Oh yeah, I should mention that if the game in question is one you plan on playing online, like Smash Bros, Splatoon 2, or MarioKart Deluxe, your chances of getting banned are exponentially higher.

It's up to you whether or not it's worth the risk. Nobody here can 100% guarantee you won't get banned.

So from what you wrote, I came up with this.
Airplane mode + block updates and logs
Use hekate to run homebrew with atmosphere cfw.
Use checkpoint to do what I need
Format sd card and reboot.

Aside from the game save, is this a decent method to avoid a ban?

You still haven't given us much detail about what you're doing. The only 100% surefire way of not getting banned is to not use CFW / homebrew at all. If you get your Switch banned, it's your own fault.

Basically I'm trying to get a game save on my pc with an unlikely chance of getting banned

If all you're trying to do is get the save onto your PC, you're much better off not using Atmosphere at all. Just use Hekate, make a NAND backup, and then extract the save from the NAND backup using information in the links I've already posted.
