Okay so here's my story.
I just bough a 256GB SD card, I formatted it as FAT32 and already have all of my games in NSP and split NSP formats, I'm waiting on my dongle to arrive.
I have my Switch at version 3.0.0 exactly.

So my question is, what would you guys recommend me to do for it?
Like what CFW, and how to update the Switch properly to use my NSPs in it.
Can Goldleaf install split NSPs?
Is Kosmos the recommended way to setup CFW with sigpatches?
How would I go about updating the Switch safely without burning fuses?

I'm running Kosmos and haven't had any issues at all. How to update = ChoiDujourNX
Can Goldleaf install split NSPs?
I don't know about Goldleaf, but I used Aluminum Foil

Yes

Thanks for the answers!
So my first step would be to dump my 3.0.0 NAND, then update with Choi, and once that is done I should use Kosmos?

Probably just Atmosphere based platforms for now.

Yeah thought so as well.
Then again I can't complain as the transition to Atmosphere was the natural choice.
I still can't believe I'm swapping SD cards without injecting payload from my phone.
Hopefully we're not far off from the last step to permanent CFW.

You've already got satisfying answers here mate, but another one can't be bad. :)
So my question is, what would you guys recommend me to do for it?
First: Make a NAND backup from within hekate! I can't recommend that enough. Obviously dump your BOOT too.
Then either stay offline "forever" (aka Thermosphère has been released for Atmosphère and proofed being somehow ban safe -> Thermosphère = emuNAND) or apply 90DNS to your WiFi connection to prevent being banned from now on.
90DNS has the benefits of letting you enjoy online features in homebrews (like RetroArch netplay or the AppStore NX).
Then update to 6.2.0 (for now) using ChoiDujourNX and make another NAND backup with hekate.
Then put everything from the newest Kosmos ZIP on your SD card and enjoy Atmosphère with sigpatches. Install NSPs as you like.

Atmosphère (included in Kosmos along the needed sigpatches). ChoiDujourNX.
Can Goldleaf install split NSPs?
Not sure about that but n1dus can and it's still working great for me on 6.2.0 with anything.

Use this to split your NSPs on your PC. This python script automatically sets the archive bit for you so you won't have to worry about that.
However, I'd say USB install is the prefered way nowadays. You could either use
  1. Tinfoil + AluminumFoil
  2. Tinfoil + Fluffy
  3. Goldleaf + Goldtree
By Tinfoil I mean the "old" text based app. It's linked in the OP of the Fluffy thread.
Is Kosmos the recommended way to setup CFW with sigpatches?
That depends but I'd say yes. It includes the best CFW (in my opinion) and the needed sigpatches.

As said before: ChoiDujourNX. Grab the 6.2.0 FW from some black umbrella site or anywhere else and install it.
One sidenote as you're still on 3.0.0 -> if you care about preserving the ability to use a real untethered coldboot exploit if that ever comes out, I'd try to keep the cartridge reader driver as it is. It gets updated by any firmware above 4.x so you might wanna do that.

Tried the reboot to payload from SXOS. Didn't work that well... pretty much didn't work at all!
I think it only works with hekate. I tried from ReiNX as well with no luck.
Reboot to payload uses Atmosphere’s secure monitor which other CFWs haven’t copied yet

I think you can technically use Atmosphere’s secmon with ReiNX, idk how though

Thank you for all the info!

Silly question: Can I boot this up using SX OS Pro? By placing the files that the OP has uploaded into the root of the SD card and boot it that way?

Also how would you go about installing NSP's that are larger than 4GB on a fat32?

Oh so that's how it is!
I did think of something similar: make a boot profile for ReiNX in hekate and use the secmon bit from Atlas.
Then again why not just use Atlas instead since it amounts to the same thing? I have switched.

Very detailed answers!
Thank you so much!
It really help clarify a lot of questions I had about starting to hack my Switch (finally!).
Also, I noticed that dOPUS/n1dus hasn't seen updated as of late, and hasn't been developed in a while.
I asked about Goldleaf because I know that one is still constantly being updated, and for what I've seen, I think you can install split NSPs as long as they have the archive bit set.
Is USB installation really that fast compared to the SD one?
I already have all of my split NSPs in my FAT32 SD, just ready for installing, but I am wondering if USB is really faster than the SD installation.

So all I have to do is this:
  • Use Hekate to make a NAND backup of my Switch at 3.0.0 (Can the nand dump be small in size and be compatible with FAT32?)
  • Once the nand is backed up, run Choi to update from 3.0.0 to 6.2.0 (or 7.0.0 when that is safe) without burning fuses. This installs AutoRCM automatically as well.
  • Once Choi has updated the console, make another nand backup from 6.2.0 (or whatever fw version I update to) from Hekate (before launching CFW)
  • Reboot into RCM, use Kosmos to boot Atmosphere + sigpatches.
Now for the card driver, how would I go about specifying the console to NOT update it at all once I make the jump from 3.0.0 to 6.X+?
I don't even plan on using the cartridge slot at all, since I already have all my games in NSP format, so I will only install them. Basically, I will not use cartridges at all, so I want to know exactly what I need to do to make sure that card driver doesn't get updated once I get everything setup with Kosmos.
