Hello,

I recently purchased the R4iGold plus in order to hack mi New 3DS but i can’t get SafeB9SInstaller to boot.I’m following the 3ds.hack guide and here: is a video of me doing every step. Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong? The internal R4 switch is set to N, my firmware is 11.7.0-40E and I’ve tried this several times.

Thank you

Shutdown your console normally. Not with a magnet on the sleep spot. And i saw that the console detects your flashcard.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And is the sd card correctly formatted? Fat32 32k Cluster?

I tried too shut it down without the magnet on sleep mode and the same thing happened. The microSD is the one that came with the console. I don't understand the significance of the ds detecting the flashcard, but when I reboot and then take out the magnet then it doesn't detect it.

I dont know if this is useful. But maybe you hold the button combo too long? Hold it 2 seconds or so. In normal case are your steps correct.

And is your 3ds sd card correctly formatted? How much space is on the card?

The sd card is formated in FAT32 with 2Gb of space left. I also tried switching up the number of seconds I press the buttons but nothing happens. Is it of any significance that when I insert the flashcard the ds recognizes it but after I reboot there is just a blank space?

@veraeldr, the video at 4:29 shows the Konami Digital Entertainment banner. If you see Konami, your flashcart isn't in NTRboot mode. Flip the switch back to the other side.

Edit 1 - at 4:42, you attempted the magnet combo step while already in HOME Menu.
You're suppose to do this right after turning it on.

Edit 2 - Nvm. I saw the rest where you turned it off after magnet placement.
Hold the button press between 5-10 seconds.

I flipped the switch and held the button press like 7 seconds and still the same result. Could it be that my R4 is a defect?

Possible but not likely. NTRboot can be tricky to get exactly right because any one little thing that's off can make it not work.

(1) - Make sure the SD card in the n3DSXL is formatted in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size using either Windows File Explorer or guiformat.

***

As was seen in your video, SD card files for NTRboot

boot9strap/
- (from boot9strap-1.3.zip)
boot9strap.firm
boot9strap.firm.sha

boot.3dsx
boot.firm
- (SafeB9SInstaller.firm, v0.0.7 - renamed)

***

(2) - The R4i Gold 3DS Plus may need to be removed and reinserted several times to get a good connection.

(3) - The same goes for the SD card inserted in the n3DSXL.

(4) - Verify in HOME Menu that the Konami Digital Entertainment screen is no longer present with the NTRboot switch is selected.

(5) - Put the magnet in place only when the n3DSXL is turned off.

(6) - The magnet must not move in the slightly bit while holding the buttons. Use tape if it helps.

(6) - You must simultaneously turn on and hold the (X) + (Start) + (Select) + (Power) button combos for up to 10 seconds, let go, and leave the magnet alone.

(7) - If the SafeB9SInstaller screen shows up, remove the magnet.

(8) - If it does not, try again in removing + reinserting the flashcart, micro SD card, battery, and magnet.

(9) - If you're not having any success with NTRboot, you might need to flip the switch back to DS mode and fall back to following the Flashing ntrboot (3DS Single System).
  • This assumes the preinstalled NTRboot mode was not flash correctly from the factory.
  • You would be dumping the DS mode *.bin flash memory and reflashing with the R4i Gold 3DS family of boot9strap_ntr. After you're done hacking, you reflash back the DS mode *.bin.
    • Dump Flash → Restore Flash → ntrboot hack the n3DSXL → Restore Flash

Step 9 with the switch on DS mode just gives me a black screen when I select the flashcard.

Your flashcart (in DS mode) will need to be reinserted several times until the Konami banner appears.
Also, its micro SD must has good contact with the cart.

Edit - The SD card for flashcart must also be format in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size.
If launching the flashcart comes up empty, you might be missing the kernel found on the card.

As was found for Newest WOOD R4 Kernel at http://r4ids.cn/r4i-download-e.htm.
***

For the micro SD card inserted in the flashcart, using boot9strap-1.3-ntr.zip.

ntrboot/
boot9strap_ntr.firm
boot9strap_ntr.firm.sha

ntrboot_flasher_nds.nds

***
  • R4i Gold 3DS → Dump flash → Inject FIRM
There should be a R4iGold3DS-backup.bin found in the ntrboot folder.
This will be used for reflashing the DS mode later once the 3DS is hacked.

I did all of this (dump flash and inject firm) but the konami banner still shows up on the 3ds (but not after reboot) and it still doesn't work

:(

So, here's the bad news... You're not the first who has a failed NTRboot experience like those from this thread (and others). Why this happens, no one knows for sure.

Your Plan C is to now resort to following the 100% free Frogminer method. Yes, it will suck when compared to NTRboot in terms of effort, but you don't have another reasonable choice at this moment.
