So here's the timeline of events:

1. Wanted to buy a game, but did not want to update to the latest firmware.
2. Installed NSP of said game, hoping to buy elsewhere to support the developer.
3. Accidentally updated to the latest firmware.
4. Buy said game from eShop, try to play and am greeted with "Unable to start software. Return to the HOME Menu and try again"

Things I have tried:
Deleting Game and Save data and redownloading.
Removing SD Card after deleting and redownloading to NAND.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

edit: Tried downloading a demo I never played before, that booted fine.

Probably because your Switch still has the fake ticket from when you installed the nsp. Also unfortunately your Switch is gonna probably get banned now because of that fake ticket

If you have CFW, install Tinfoil and delete the corresponding ticket for said game in 'Ticket Management'. Be sure to delete both the common and personalized ticket.

Thanks all, I ended up just restoring my NAND backup from before I started messing with CFW and installing NSPs, then I updated and redownloaded the game. As for getting banned, eh I don't see what the big deal. It's Nintendo, not like they can ever come up with a competent online service anyway lol.

With Nintendo, they see you as "once a pirate, always a pirate", and your money is no longer good to them. The treat you as either 100% pirate or 100% legit. Since you already installed the NSP, you might as well just stick to that with all future games you plan to play especially since you're going to be banned eventually anyways.

Of course, that's only with that particular Switch. If you buy another Switch and keep it legit, they'll forgive you.
