I just got my first WiiU heh.. Anyways, I have a ton of Wii, 3DS, and 2DS NANDs sitting on my NAS from softmoding mine and friends consoles over many years. Unlikely i will ever use them. Reason i ask is i have like 15 32GB SD cards and i really don't feel like buying a 64GB for the sole purpose of backing up something i will likely never need.

Cheers.

Well, it makes it restorable in case something does go wrong which is unlikely, but always a possibility. In the end, it's your own call.

Given you need to buy a hardmod and then have the skills to solder it in or pay someone else to do it I personally think its not worth it. I'd rather just buy another Wii U if something went wrong with it.

Personally I would, but then I have a 64GB mSD lying around.

Even if it needs a hardmod if you brick, at least you have an option should the opportunity ever appear.

At the very least, I’d backup the keys although how useful they would be without a full dump I don’t know.

At this point it would cost more to get someone to restore it with hardware than you could just buy a new console only TBH... so... save yourself the time :P

do you think you'll ever restore the full backup ? I guess not.
What I suggest is to backup the useful files and data instead, the one you can use and restore (unlike the full dump binary).

I'd dump keys, seeprom and OTP
then vWii key, and all IOS using BlueDumpMod without fake signing (it'll save you from vWii brick !) <-- this one is what most users are needing, they rarely (never? except formatting a CBHC) brick their WiiU mode, but soooo often does on their vWii mode. Really, do that step !

Hint : look at the "I broke my ......" threads and see what users most often does wrong. they are all related to vWii.
most recent post is : I broke/lost my vWii Miimaker channel !

If you brick your WiiU, too bad. you'll probably never fix it, so full 64GB dump is quite useless.
if you brick your vWii, you can fix it without hardware mod.
Though, the otp and keys could be used for other things (like mounting/extracting your USB HDD content on computer. I guess only very few users would do that, but it's an option)
