An SD card and an SD adapter to hook it up to your PC

I read somewhere you can install games trough a usb stick whith the files on it with reinx. This true? And if so how?

This would be handy because of not having to remove the sd.

1) How do we actually update Reinx if a newer version comes out?

2) There are currently 3 cfw versions. Someday one might outsmart the other one. How and how easy is it to switch over from one to the other?
Atmosphere
ReiNX
SX OS
Its as easy as putting different files on an SD card and sending a different payload/bootloader to use them.

That's not a CFW feature, that's a homebrew feature of Tinfoil. Grab the latest Tinfoil from the GitHub page and the instructions can be found under tools.
is it safe to update on the newest switch firmware and use sxos/reinx/atmosphere?
Safe as in not getting banned? No. In fact, some people have told me they were banned after updating their firmware online. Also, official system updates remove any AutoRCM you have installed.

Hi. Somewhat switch / PC related. I have come across some some .rar files that are not accessable with “right click” when try to extract with 7zip. It says the file cannot be accessed or opened or something to that effect. Any tips? Better program to use? Thx! I’m in windows 10 if that matters.

WinRAR. Files could be corrupt.

What CFW should I use.
Atmosphere
ReiNX
SX OS

Pros and cons
ReiNX and Atmosphere pretty much do all of the same things from having .NSP support to loading homebrew to utilizing LayeredFS (aka fs_mitm.kip) to mod games. Customization for the two CFW are handled differently; with ReiNX, you use the ReiNX toolkit to modify the .kip files used to load the CFW while Atmosphere involves modification of a .ini file which is less intuitive. However one advantage ReiNX sports over Atmosphere is support for .XCI installation via tools such as ZeroTwoXCI, dOPUS, and n1dus.

SX OS on the other hand differs greatly from the other two. It has less homebrew compatibility compared to the other two and hides some of its features, notably the piracy related ones, behind a paywall. It now features its own cheat engine as well as HDD support for loading .XCI files. Other than that it has the same .NSP support, can load most (if not all) homebrew, and can utilize LayeredFS for game modding.

Would you recommend renix or athmosphere

I don't recommend one over the other as they both are pretty much equal to the end-user. I personally switch between both, as well as SX OS, for testing purposes. While it is unknown what new features ReiNX will gain from this point onwards, Atmosphere will continue development with one of its goals being the highly-coveted EmuNAND. Alternatively, you can try/use both and see which one you personally favor.

hey, im relatively new to the scene, just ordered an Atmosphere dongle and a 128gb micro sd :D
buut I read that the "safest" method to hack your switch is to first backup NAND before launching any cfw and then using airplane mode and deleting your wifi settings (i dont plan to go online until smash comes out). Do I need to do anything other than to just delete my wifi settings or is there some 'hidden' network settings I should be aware of? Also when I eventually restore my NAND, all the games I installed after I backed up my NAND are gone right? Is there a save manager available so I could grab my saves before the NAND backup and then use the same files when I reinstall my pirated games?

Also is it true that I dont need a usb a to usb c -cable if I have the NS dongle?

There are hidden network settings stored within the console that activate when near a Nintendo Hotspot so if you plan to be using your Switch while you're out and about, you should enable Airplane Mode and delete the Wi-Fi settings.

A good save manager you can use is the homebrew application Checkpoint

No, you do not need a USB-C cable if you already have an external dongle but it can be useful in case you lose it or something else unforeseen happens.

I see, thanks!
Also I'm on the fw 5.1 and I read that you can't use exfat sd card until fw 6.0, so my best bet would be to update my switch using the choidujoirnx in order to prevent "burning fuses" (meaning what exactly?)? On the other hand if I want to use a fat32 sd card as it's more compatible, how much of a hassle it is to split the games that are over 4gb in size?

No, exFAT is separate from firmware. Its supported on all firmware except exFAT. You can use a variety of tools to patch your firmware to have exFAT support, the most notable of which is ChoiDujourNX. Although you can do everything using only FAT32 assuming you install your .NSP files split or via USB/network and split all .XCI files.
