so when i was recently in japan i bought one of the blue hori d pad joycons, when i got home back to the u.s and plugged it into my switch, it does nothing. not even recognized. i contacted hori and they said make sure i'm on the latest firmware. i'm on 4.1 and don't want to update for cfw reasons. does anyone else happen to have one? if so, what firmware are you on?

I don't own one but i planned on buying one. Found out tho that it doesn't have it's own battery. So it actually drains your switch battery, a lot faster i think & you can't use it in wireless mode. There's no rumble feature either. The fact that it won't even work tho unless you're on the latest FW. Not surprised by that & Hori at all.

i dont think it's a "it doesnt work without the latest firmware" thing. i think that was more of them covering all the bases in case i'm an idiot. they also did tell me to make sure i'm using it in handheld mode as if i would try it wirlessly

You need 6.0 anyway if you want the Switch to sleep with the hori joycon attached without constant power drain. So yeah Switch firmware can change how this licensed device works, since it doesn't appear to have any of its own internal firmware.
