A "VIP" area? I think that's a good idea (if you let me in, of course)
This will be a difficult one.. who will be allowed entrance? You would need to think of a reward system or a job/forum evalution, or even better why not do a point ranking system! Or you could do it non-analytical hmm maybe it's better to do it more detailed.. maybe an analytical approach would be better.

(as you might have noticed... I'm accessing my Human Resource Management theory on gbatemp... I should be doing my homework... damn gbatemp...)

What I love about this place, and its lack of serious discussion, is all the people who think they are cool if they pad their post count. You aint a balla unless you got 1000+ posts, it doesnt matter if 75% of your posts are pure worthless drivel. Also if you fill you signature with a bunch of shit then that also makes you cool, or "hip". This was just a vain attempt by me to increase my post count btw

No LSSR, I'm saying you must be over 13, and you're obviously an idiot. And it proves how unfair an age restriction is. Maybe it's too complex for you.

Maturity on a forum shouldn't be calculated by the age of a person(which sometimes might be a good way of measure) but there are tons of kids that i know of that have the maturity of a 5 year old when they are over 17 and vice versa, i wonder if there is some plugin for this forum that would allow a simulated test that would determine if that person is eligible to enter the forum or has to be stuck in the "special section" maybe we can have testers for this were you have to answer a series of questions or fill out a form to get full rights as a member.

EDIT: Im my self 15 and believe im mature enough to browse this board because i turn how to turn my switch on and off from kiddie time to serious time.

and i dont want to start a flam war so im leaving this conversation... which ironically is against flam

and last thing i agree totally with the person above me... even though people would still find ways around it but then mods could boot them to the special area...

Couldn't have said it better myself! Post counts here are so overrated, reading through this forum reminds me of IRC. If I could clock up post counts and status on IRC, I'm sure I'd have 20 bajillion medals and be God of the Universe!

I think post count should be zeroed at the start of each year (with "veteran" members retaining access to the trading forum).

I'm glad to see that the forums are being taken seriously again. I've been here for years and saw the decline over time. This should help keep mature posters who can contribute.

Good job.

I have to say that I appreciate the efforts of the GBAtemp.net MOD community. I want to see this board remain the peaceful and extremely helpful place that it has always been. There is a real sense of community here and I don't like seeing that change.

I'm a MOD on another fairly well known web site. In the past several months there has been an invasion of ignorant, hostile, and sometimes crazy new users all with the "rabid fanboy" attitude. They seem to exist only to cause trouble. I have banned so many people in the past 6 months that I literally lost count. And to me that is still the best way of dealing with punks.

I do not believe in VIP areas. That only segregates the community. It also rewards web addicts and other "no-lifes" for spending their lives posting online. Post counts are also something I don't really care about for the same reasons I just mentioned.

I also will not support age restrictions. As a MOD on another site, I have seen first hand that some of the most immature users I have encountered have also been some of the oldest users. So age restrictions will do nothing to stop this problem.

Honestly, I don't have a solution for this problem. I just wanted to contribute my opinion and express my hopes for a positive community based around our mutual respect and our shared interests.

kellyan95 and LSSR. Why are you flaming each other in the topic about not flaming? And kellyan95, there is no need to belittle other members and call them names.

It seems to me most of the problems started when NSider closed down. All the kiddies that used to bicker on that forum are starting to migrate here for lack of a better place to go. NSider had LOTS of useless spam posts clogging it up. Probably among some of the many reasons it closed down was rampant discussion of flashcarts, ROMs, flaming and off-topic posting.

GBAtemp is a very active board. Most people WILL migrate to a board when they see that it's very active. There's not much anyone can do but report trolling/spamming and have it moderated on a post by post basis and hope the issues resolve themselves through moderation.

A Kudos/reputation (whatever you want to call it) point system is NOT a good idea. I've seen this at other forums and it quickly becomes just buddies rep'ing each other while some members never get the recognition they truly deserve simply because they don't post constantly. It just doesn't work. The people that end up with high ratings start thinking they are better than everyone else and that starts its own vicious-circle of contempt among the rest of the members.

I've seen a few people get "post-restricted" on this site and that seems to work. Once the member was able to post again, that member didn't post like they did before. I feel this is a very good method of moderation.

Another good thing I see is the "Warn percentage". That needs to be used more intensely. Maybe if some of the offenders start getting more warnings, with the understanding that reaching 100% equals a ban, they will chill-out a bit and either post less, or put more thought into their posts/replies.

Personally, I don't mind people just being silly and humorous, that's all part of the "fun" of forums, but flame-baiting, all-out fights and off-topic posting in threads really needs to stop. I also understand people posting one word replies as they just want to feel like they're part of something even though they don't really have anything to say. That's just normal forums activity in most places I've ever seen.

I can't say that I have never crossed the line in my posts'replies, I'm sure I have, but I at least I TRY to stay within the bounds of the rules as best I can. Sometimes, it's just the mood hits you to be silly and you can't help yourself. Sometimes you're in a bad mood and that ends up showing in posts. I do try to keep that kind of stuff to a minimum though. I believe that's all the mods/admin want from everyone.

All I can say is that I fully support the mods/admin to run the forum as they see fit. If that means they have to get "medieval" on a few members, so be it. I don't know what the ultimate solution is, but I'm confident GBAtemp will survive regardless.
